Possumman: Ten or so years ago I lucked upon a Randal, which was unused, never sharpened, BUT, the former owner had stored it in the sheath. The blade showed minor corrosion, but the brass in the guard had turned green. I carefully cleaned, and had it looking almost like new, and to store it, lightly coated it with Vasoline, then wrapped the blade in kitchen cling wrap, before sliding back in sheath. Just now went to the safe, checked it, and in over 6 years, it looks as good today as when I first put it up. I did make sure to separate the brass from the leather with the plastic wrap, as the leather had caused the brass to get the green film on it, but now, good to go. I routinely coat blades with vasoline prior to putting them up, and I'm sure someone will point out this is a bad thing to do, but so far, it has worked for me.
