I'm looking for a wooden drawer for my knives, I've looked and can't find any other than the Gerstner chest and they are out of my price range. Thanks

Jewelry box, Military foot locker, or cigar boxes in a regular dresser would work. There's also knife collector soft cases.

I just looked up Gerstner, WOW expensive!

I don't know if you have a Princess Auto your way, but they sell a couple of felt lined wooden toolboxes, in a couple different sizes that may fit the bill...

Harbor Freight Tools has a solid wood tool chest that is very nice and not too expensive ( $80.00).

I've seen them at The Sportsmans Guide website too.

I got the Gerstner International locking wooden toolbox a few months ago. Note that the US products are way way more expensive than the Chinese models. Mine is Chinese but the quality is very good, and I recommended it as a product. (I'm not rich enough for the US models, so I'd have bought a plastic or metal case otherwise.)

Gerstner USA = near $1,000
Gerstner International (China) = around $250-$275

I also spotted a much cheaper wood storage case (<$100) in the Sportsman's Guide catalog, however, I liked the Gerstner better and I don't like doing business with SG.

Yeah the Gerstner chest's are beautiful man! really love those but they are pretty expensive! I'll have to check out those Harbor Freight cases!!!!

Those H-F units ran $70 on sale - use a 15% off coupon at the local (Birmingham) store, and they run ~$65 with s/t. I know - I bought three before I got to keep one! My wife uses the first two of them for her jewelry chests... still eyes the third one in my room, now, gasp, a fine tool chest. My knives are in display cases.

My wife collects Harmony Kingdom goodies - and needs more display space on a regular basis. The local collectibles stores have all gone belly-up, selling her their branded glass cases for a song. I got a couple of her outgrown cases - and display my knives in them. They are locking - and the fb knives have their cases/boxes stowed 'elsewhere'. They are also illuminated - by heat producing high intensity LV lamps - a great way to keep the moisture level down. The bottom shelf is usually mirrored, helping with the illumination. Some cases, like the one below, have locking storage beneath, too. Here is a 'busy' picture looking down from the side - through two glass shelves.

One benefit of a floor sitting display case - it's hard to just pick it up and take off with. A machinist-style wood chest - with handle(s) on it and full of your SAK collection is easily 'borrowed'.

Stainz

PS I got her corner English antique oak bar, too. The sliding glass display area was lit by a 220V incandescent lamp, which I replaced with a trio of LED under-counter clusters - 'cool'! Check antique stores... not all items are that high - some can be bargains.

I have been looking at the large, multi-drawer locking tool chests from Sears as possible storage units for my Busse collection. They are lockable, three or four bolted together would be impractical for a casual burglar to carry off. The balck or blue ones would not look bad in the corner of my knife/gun room. Sears sells chemical-resistant liner material that could be used in the drawers.

One down side is that they may be air-tight enough that I would need to drill vent holes in the front of each drawer, to prevent having little condensation chambers.

Has anyone used these?
