Knife storage

Picked up a couple Bark River knifes. I read were it is not recommended to store in the leather sheath. I want to keep the knives in the gun safe. How do people store there knifes? Just leave the knives on a shelf?

Leather sheaths can absorb moisture, which can lead to rust on bare metal if the knife is stored in the sheath. Leaving your knives on a shelf outside of the sheaths in your gun safe would be a good idea. I store my knives pretty much like firearms. If your safe has a desicant device inside that would be even better for absorbing moisture. What type of steel are your Bark River knives? I would also coat the exposed metal in a thin layer of mineral oil if you plan to use them for preparing food or gun oil for just general use.
