Knife storage ??

I use to use a tool box with velvet lined drawers.........worked great , but I wanted something more secure , so I bought a safe.
Now I have to store my knives in the boxes they came in to put them in the safe. Iam one that likes to look and play with my knives ever so often so now I,d have to get them out of the box to do so and ramble through the boxes to find the right knife.
Is there anyone here who has a better solution to this problem ?
I,d go back to the tool box but that would be easy for someone to come along and take it.
Iam thinkin on having custom lined selves made for the safe , that might be expensive though.
Any ideas ????? thanks dj

get a piece of foam 2 inches thick and with the area small enough to fit in your safe cut small notches in it for each knife and set it someplace stable in the safe

Then I think you answered your own question. Build some shelves and call it a day.

I use a pelican case with custom cut slots for each of my knives. It is safe, secure, and easy to transport all my knives without risking scuffing any of them. Then this gets put into my gun vault for extra security

Yea those role up bags or the book things. I have not seen one for sale but they are generally leather bound books, that open and their are the knives. The lining of the books look exactly like the role up bags.

Extra Benchmades in hidden compartment. They are going in a Fort Knox safe this weekend. Even with a German Shepard, an alarm system and someone here almost 24 hours a day (home businesses) I will like the added saftey and organization of a large safe.

Depending on how many knives you have and how big your safe is you might consider some hinged glass top display cases. They are available in various sizes and you can stack them if you want to. They have a foam insert that the knives rest on and when you close the lid the glass pushes the knives gently into the foam which holds them in place. Since the lid is glass, you can view your knives without even opening the lid.

Here's an example of one that I use. I opened the lid to avoid glare in the picture.

I know this isnt necessarily really secure, but how I store my knives is I go to the local cigar store and grab some of the empty cigar boxes (the owner and I are friends.) They come in all different shapes and sizes, and they're heavy and tough enough (wood lined) that nothing would harm the enclosed knives from the outside. Most of all, the boxes look really cool all lined up, and I think it's an awesome way to creatively and functionally hold my collection.
