We bought a company in Clearwater which means I'll be traveling there
and back quite often, in fact tomorrow I travel there for a week.
Looking for a local knife store in the area, and a good place to eat
would be handy too!

No good knife stores in the area, my man. There is or was a gun shop up on Florida Avenue in Tampa that used to have a half decent selection back in the day, but even Bill Jacksons doesn't have much in the way of knives other than the basic factory offerings. As far as good places to eat, what kind of food are you looking for?

Thanks Joe, I guess the internet is making short work of the mom and pop shops.

Food wise, mexican, chinese, steaks, not too interested in fish, which is sad
as there are probably a lot of good seafood places. Also looking for a nice place
along the beach, that isn't too crowded, also probably not too easy to find.

Made it down, man it's nice weather here right now, I thought it would be
a lot hotter than it is...hope to get around and see some sights this time
around, maybe make it over to Treasure Island, just to say I've been there ;)

No idea about knife stores..we vacation there every year and used to have a condo..recently moved up to Lake Erie (it's a bit more convenient for the family, since we live in central Ohio). I highly recommend Sculley's in St. John's Pass to eat, as well as Crabby Bill's across from the Hilton. The restaurant in the Hilton isn't bad for breakfast, I highly recommend that too. Sorry I couldn't be more help with the cutlery (culinary matters too).

KATN,

Wade

Thanks Wade, did Sculley's for dinner, great place nice view too.
Tonight we drove a bit further south to St Pete Beach and found
a place called the Brass Monkey, very good food, facing the gulf
up on the second floor, crab cakes were great as was the philly cheese steak
sandwich, excellent!
Smoke hid the sunset :( otherwise a nice day, heading home in the morning...
but, I know I'll be back soon,

drive 60 miles east and visit Mr Blackwood in Lakeland ;)

When I'm next down I may well do that! I had a guest from the UK with me
so I was more or less the driver and he's not into knives whatsoever :(

Nothing worthwhile in the area other than flea markets. There is a knife dealer at the Oldsmar Flea market (World of Defense). Many Flea Markets around.
Smoke from the fires in Ga. and N. FL is really thick today.
Nothing burns like Ga. Pine.

It is an amazing amount of smoke here in Tampa airport, where I'm sitting waiting
on my flight, like London fog, but not good to breath!

Hey Gary,
Glad you enjoyed it down here...smoke was driving me nuts all day too.

I hope your not planning on moving here, the home/flood insurance (Citizens) here is nuts, I had moved here a few years ago, just before all the hurricanes hit and the prices went through the roof...I figured what else is this state going to throw at me, I'm about ready to move back to Cincinnati myself, If I had the chance to do it again, I'd have stayed up north.

The guys are right...not much in the way of knives in this area, trust me I've looked.

About your best bet is to check with Guy (thats his name) of http://www.knivesngear.com/ he also sells on ebay, he lives right here in St.Pete area, Ive bought some Sebenza's from him and he would meet me so I could pick them up in person.

:D

Keith A.

Tell me about it. I've been stuck in this crap since last week. I'm currently suffering one of the worst sinus headaches I've ever had.

Suprising the hear that the smoke was bad that far south.

When I got to the Tampa airport, you could hardly see the highway signs
it was that thick of smoke in the air.
I expect to be back probably first week of June, hopefully it's calmed down
by then!
