FYI to all--
I did drop by Nagel's shop in San Antonio yesterday, and enjoyed talking with a young knifemaker named Dave Nightingale and looking through the offerings. Very representative sampling of production knives from most of the respected companies, as well as semi-production knives including Randall's and Mad Dog pieces, plus a few custom works. I didn't find the prices horrendous, although of course it's possible to order for less off the internet. One nice advantage of buying something from a brick-and-mortar store is that the fit and finish of the knife you're getting isn't such a mystery as I've often encountered when buying by mail-order (or email order). Thoroughly enjoyed the visit, and would recommend it to anyone who has an hour to kill in San Antonio.
One caveat, though, wander back through the gun rooms at your own risk. I came within a hair of giving the man my credit card to ring up a 1st generation SAA Colt. Really nice condition with worn but original blueing and an action like a Rolex, just reduced to $3000. It was clearly an excellent buy in my opinion, with serial number in the 187,000 range, which means it was a very early smokeless edition, shortly after the conversion from black powder to modern ammunition at about the 165,000 mark. Probably made in the late 1890's, give or take. Finally talked myself into thinking about it a while longer--doubt it will last at that price, though.
Anyway, thanks again for helping me locate the place.
