Knife support to our troops

A member from another forum is putting together a package that he sends to an infantry captain for dispursement among field troops in Iraq. The captain states that these knives will go to troops who need the most and have the least. Every knife is appreciated and they especially like the SAKs. Don't have to be new, but I would think they should be useable out of the box.

If there is any interest here, let me know and I'l have him post here with contact info, or pass it on myself.

Thanks

Let me tell ya... The troops appreciate everything they get. It's tough for a soldier to walk down a street today with out being thanked for serving. The real heros, though, are the folks that are supporting us from the homefront.

90% of troops don't get issued a knife of any kind. they have to buy one out of pocket. Considering that more than half of servicemen qualify for food stamps and WIC, they don't buy very good knives. SAKs usually don't cost alot, and provide a bunch of use.

Thanks for the support

They're doing something like that in Knife World. I would like to donate some knives, but was unsure what to send. Any opinions from soldiers well versed in knives coming home from battlezones?

Guys,
Count me in. Please post the info to send knives to our troops overseas. I can go on a knife buying "diet" if it means a deserving soldier has the proper equipment.

I will post the fella's info, once I get his apporval.

As far as knives, the SAKs are truely prized. I guess that fact that everyone can carry one (without official approval, etc.). Don't really know, but the word he gave me was that the SAKs are tops.

Good to see you posted it in this forum too. I'll be going through my knives to see what I can send. Thanks!

BTTT for ya

I see Smoky Mountain Knife Works is participating with a number of knife manufacturers, that allows you to buy knives at a special price and have it sent to troops overseas. Some of the prices are really good. A Cold Steel SRK for $24.99 for example.

So for those that don't have a knife to donate, this seems like a good way to go.

I'm in for shedding some steel. Awhile ago I sent all of my multi-tools to a friends son in Iraq. Everytime I reach for one and realize it's gone, it gives me a good feeling to know some G.I. is using it everyday.

Gentlemen,
Josey was kind enough to bring this over to Bladeforum.
What I have received to date and what are OK to send include:
Fixed blades of a non "rambo" size
Lock blades
SAKs
Multi-Tools
AA batteries
Our young warriors can always use an atta boy, reaching into thier kit for that knife from back home seems like a perfect reward.

I will be picking up all postage fee from my home to the APO. They will be shipped USPS Priority to speed them along.
Thanx in advance,
Pete

Received 6 folders yesterday from board member  :D J. Parker. :D
In response to inquiries, I will announce when this shipment departs and when the next collection begins.
Thanx to All,
Pete

Thanks Pete! It's a great cause and I plan on doing it again. I hope all who can spare a knife or two do so. It doesn't have to be your safe queen. As said many times before "....the best knife to have is the one in your hand at the time". :D
Our troops are going through some rough times right now and what a great way for us knifenuts to show our support.

My son and I watched Blackhawk Down last night and my package goes off to Pete today. Thanks to everyone who responded to Pete.

I think this is a great program.

I have been doing something similar for the past two years. My son is an army captain, ranger-recon battalion leader, with the 1st Armored Div out of Germany. They were deployed for about 18 months in Sadr City/Baghdad, are now back in Germany but scheduled to redeploy this fall. His wife, my sweety daughter-in-law, is also a captain who was stationed at the Baghdad airport. I send them all kinds of stuff from extra clips for their 9mm Berettas (which they had problems getting originally) to boxes of folders that I found on Ebay. He said they really had a very good fixed blade which was their M-9 bayonet/knife combination. Apparently it opened up car doors very effectively and held up well in that abrasive climate.

As already mentioned anything you can send to the troops is greatly appreciated. I know in Baghdad they really have no place for any outdoor R&R. They have some rec rooms to watch videos, etc. and read books/letters. They also had an exercise room with treadmills, weights, etc.

When they convoyed from Baghdad to Kuwait City for supplies they would stop/camp in the desert on the way and play some baseball (I send them a couple dozen gloves and a few bats and balls I scoffed up on Ebay). However in the cities they are confined to the barrack areas for obvious reasons.

Thanks from a couple of nervous parents to all of you for your support.

DGG,
The view from my house is that we need to share our freedom with those that provide it.
A few less knives compared to the spartan comforts they have seem kinda trivial.
My heart felt respect goes out to your son and daughter-in law.
Thanx,
Pete

Our own Joey Wales and his son came through in a big way.
3 fine lock backs, 2 compact screw drive sets and a pile of batteries.
Thanx much,
Pete
