I`m running out of ideas on what style knives to concentrate on, so figured I would ask you guys. If you vote, please give a reason why you chose what you did. You can choose more than one category, just explain each choice. Keep in mind these will all be fixed blades, since I got my first ZT, I don`t know why anyone would pay more for a custom folder when you can get these!

I think you should try making a machete style blade that looks similar to the waki's, use a steel like 3v to give it an edge on the others. I think 1/8-5/32 thickness would be ideal.

I like a big blade (Bowie style) with a spear point or clip point and a slight recurve in the middle. It's good for chopping or batoning, camp chores, and can be used on game or for defense.

Something like this one I made a few years back?

I chose the large chopper because if you only had one knife, it will handle anything, and if you camp it will be a good camp knife so long as you are not trekking too far.

I picked a couple.

EDC: I have about 10 fixed and folding blades that go through a rotation for my EDC and I'm always looking for the next one to put into rotation.

Camp Chopper: I spend a lot of time up in the mountains in camp settings. In the past I've been a hatchet guy but in the last year have started using a machete and am looking for a good chopper to play with as well.

For me, the FB knives I use the most are the ones I can carry in my pocket sheath, so I voted EDC, but actually 3" blade is about max for my setup.

This little Baby CBK is a great EDC in the pocket clip sheath. Rides comfy, and easy to extract and sheath one handed.

I picked everyday carry. I'm a devout fixed blade guy although I own several folders. Usually all the fixed blades knives I see are much too large.
I have a couple I found (cheap but good) fixed blades with overall all length 6 to 7". Not a bowie on your hip but a perfect little tool. We're talking everyday at home, at the office, on the job, not hiking or camping.

Sort of like guns I guess, if the knife is too big or too heavy it'll get left behind. A nice comfy handle with a shorter blade makes a fine everyday, go everywhere knife in my untrained opinion.

Sitflyer just beat me on the post button. Exactly what I'm talking about. Near perfect. I'd have it on a belt sheath but the knife looks great.

That's a mighty fine sheath there... if you don't mind, who made it?

A good EDC is essential. A tool that is always with you, unobtrusive and able to handle a multitude of tasks. Having a belt sheath for around the house/farm/woods/ yard and a pocket sheath for when you run to town would be ideal.(or a crossdraw horizontal sheath) A 3.25” blade is as big as I like to carry in a pocket sheath. A thinner handle for pocket carry is nice and I never felt I give up cutting performance with a slimmer handle. I love the big choppers but the cost can be prohibitive, that said, A JK Camp Knife is the next one on my list as my ideal EDC (The Farm and Ranch)is in John’s waiting queue right now!

I was thinking the same thing. I'd like one. I think the size of my pocket scandi or EWOK are perfect for most uses. I have bigger knives, they just don't get to come out to play as often.

I chose EDC and Hunter. Speaking for myself, most of my knife use comes doing mundane tasks, and I can't (don't want to) carry a fixed blade at work, so most of my fixed blade use is relegated to random stuff around the farm, or cutting up food.

In my opinion, most people can't afford to purchase large camp knives on a regular enough basis to rely upon for a living.
And I can't stand having anything around my neck.

I am looking to my XD - it will be a large, thick, indestructible hunk of JK 01 with an ergonomic handle.

An extra thick handle with smoothed linen micarta in black, with some colored liners for interest.

Flared hollow brass pins. A big mean looking K stamped on one side, and a 1 on the other.

I can't get into everyday carry with a fixed blade - I like my folders too much, and I already carry a small traditional and a larger clip-on one-handed opener.

If I had an outdoors job, I would likely carry a medium sized JK, like a Kephart or a smaller version of the XD.

best
