Knife Talk II!

From what info I can gather it's all Blade articles. Hopefully, The Man will let us know. I can't wait to get this, I learned a LOT from the first one.
Amazon is taking orders for it now (to be shipped in January) for $13.97.

I hope all who want to purchase this book will seriously consider getting it from Ed himself. I feel it is important that we all try and support our artists/artisans as much as we can. Saving a few bucks by buying an artist's creation from a large national chain store only means he/she gets less in the end.
Just my opinion here, don't mean to preach.
Brome

Thanks Guys: It will be all the articles since Knife Talk I plus some editing and some thoughts to go along with the articles. I haven't received the proof copy yet, so don't know exactly what or where it is at this time. To me, the most important aspect is to get the book into as many knifemakers hands as possible in the hope that more will become interested in devoting time to the High Performance Knife. It looks like it will be bigger than the last book.

Thanks Ed. I can't tell you how much your sharing your insights helps relatively new makers like myself.

One request: If at all possible, include some new material on working with 52100 and other technical aspects of knifemaking. I read every Blade article, so it would be nice to get some new stuff if you're not too busy. Of course, I will buy and appreciate the book either way.

John: The book has all of our research up until a month before the articles appeared in Blade. Since then we have learned a lot. We have many theories, most not absolutely sugbject to empiracle evaluation without a much bigger budjet and more time than we have. There is very little economic support for knife stuff, but sometimes we can use what other industries have followed. For example, there is very little knowledge about quenching oils, the tests we put a knife throught teach more than industry needs. I talked to Rex last night and we are planning on developing a book with all data, and implications of some of our thoughts. It will be a road map for those who wish to explore. My thoughts so far indicate a thorough exploration of forging theory, heat treating the forged blade and the design of real knives.

It will take time, but will be fun to put it all together in one place.

Ed,
Is this true? And will you be selling the book directly? Here? (I know squat about the publishing biz).

Maybe we can bypass the revenuers :D

When an outfit sells the book for me, I get only the royalty. When I sell it I receive abput 50% of the total price.

I always have copies of my book available from me. When I sell a copy of my book I try to write a personal message in the book to the new owner.

I am less concerned with the $ than I hope that the book gets into the hands of folks who wish to share thoughts about knives. That is the only reason I write. It is my opportunity to let others know that sharing thoughts, right or wrong is OK. Even the turtle makes no progress until he sticks his neck out of his shell. When thoughts are unsaid, the opportunity for growth is lost. Fear of criticism shuts the door to growth. Read what I say, question, and dream. If you wish to debate the issues, I am pleased. Should you chose to only criticise me and not the issues you will have little impact. By discussing the issues, we all learn.
Thanks for the opportunity.

Ed, is Knife Talk One still available?
Thanks for posting this information Brome and I agree with you 100%, I'll be buying the book directly from Ed!

Knife Talk I is in its second printing and still available. Looks like it will remain available for a while anyway.

thanks for your support!

Brome,
Thank you for telling me (us) about this. I never realized authors could sell the books themselves for more money than they'd get if we purchased from bookstores. I wish I had known that when I purchased KT #1!

Ed,
I'd like reserve my copy ASAP. Where do I send the check and for how much? I learned a lot from the first one, and I'm looking forward to some more.

Bill H: Thanks for the order, the books will not be available for a while, when they are I will anounce it then send the check. We don't know how much yet.
Thanks Again
