Is there a knife terms dictionary sticky, or non-sticky, post anywhere on the group site? Even a link to a off site listing would be appreciated. Lots of knife terms I see here without any clear explanation of what they mean so a dictionary sticky thread, with diagrams, would IMO be a worthwhile project for assembling.

Don't know what a term means? Ask! (or search for it) It's how everybody here learned what stuff means.

I bet "knife" isn't in there either.:)

You would be wrong!

From the link:

Knife
A tool with a blade and a handle. The blade will have at least one sharp edge. The first blade could have been of bone or stone, the first handle may have been a piece of hide used to protect the hand from sharp edges of chipped or broken stone.

You don't know what a sheath is? (jk jk)

:D

When I posted before about just asking about terms you don't know....don't ask here about "sheath." "Quillion," "oosik," "d'estaing dagger", "FFG", stuff like that. "Sheath"? That would probably get one some flak.

LMAO. That must have been an interesting conversation.

I didn't ask what a sheath was, silly. I've done plenty of stupid stuff here...that wasn't one of them.

I was advising others not to ask about terms that you really should know if one is a member here...like what a sheath is. :) Other stuff, ask away. Like "What's a choil?" "What is a Seahorse?" "What is a plunge line?"...stuff like that.

What's the difference between a sheath and a scabbard? :)

I believe, technically, if you are not totally awesome, you carry your knife in a sheath.

If you are totally awesome, like a pirate or William Wallace or me...then you use a scabbard.

I generally search for things I don't know here, as they relate to knives. It has more than several times resulted in a wealth of knife knowledge.

I would recommend this approach for just about everyone.

Hahah, blonde moment:D. In a page full of knife terms, you'd think they would have that kind of stuff though
