Knife testing

Thought that I'd share a neat pic that was taken of me at a post Blade Show get-together hosted by Wallace and Will Fennell of Camillus Cutlery. We were doing cutting tests of fixed blades using various mediums: rope, beer cans, wood, and empty shotgun shells. In this pic I am using Jerry Fisk's personal knife, his own Arkansaw camp knife to sever an empty shotgun shell in half. The idea behind this test is to stand the shell up on a flat surface and in one stroke, cut through it. Undoubtedly, this is the hardest cutting test I have done, because if you do it with too much power, you'll end up swatting the shell right off the table. Instead, you use a combination of power and wrist action to "sting" the shell to get the knife edge to bite into the plastic.

WOW! Look at the muscles in that forearm. You been working out Dex?:D

Cool pic. Terrill had to have great timing to get that shot. Of course, you had to cooperate and get the cut done right too.

Told ya...us wiry guys are tough :D Actually, Terrill had his shutter motor drive thingy attached to the camera that helped to capture all the slicin' action.

Man I wish I could have been there... Terrill sent me a picture of Ethan Becker chopping rope with one of my Megiddo's in S30V. It was a real honor to sell a knife to that guy, as well as Mr. Fennell.. Anyway heres the link to the picture where Terrill posted it..

Dex you are looking mighty ripped in that photo:-)

Dex,

Damn, when you go up there you have all the great people.

I went and all I got was Turber and Spark:(

That picture is a keeper.

I was going to comment on the arm muscles too; but I am even more impressed by the casual "Got my thumb in my pocket" style! :)

Hey Danbo,
I didn't notice that until you mentioned it. It kind of balances out that "Intense, focused" look on his face.

Dex,
In answer to your email. Yes, I am impressed. I will really be impressed if you actually let Jerry have his knife back.:p

LOL! When you're swinging big, razor sharp blades around, I wanna make sure my other arm is properly secured ;) Looking stupid with my hand like that is better than having no hand at all :D

Actually, I wasnt thinking that it looked stupid. I kinda thought you did it for balance purposes. I mean, just look at the big honkin folder in the other pocket, and I thought you had to do that to keep from falling over! ;)

That is a hard cut to make!I must admit I could never make that cut! Dex had waybetter ain than i did! :D

Nah. I hear that these guys hold beers in their hand for balance purposes. :D

Great pic, Dex! I wonder how you did with the beer cans. I heard there were quite a few empty ones around.:D :D

I'm not sure there wasn't a little cut-n-paste action here, like maybe putting Dex's head on Rob Simonich's body:D I was fortunate to make it to last year's post Blade show cuttin fair at the Fennell farm. Dex was cuttin' like a human Cuisine-art even then.
