Knife throwing without rotation

I have read about this being possible and I experimented today with a SOG Seal 2000. It actually worked up to 8'.

I was throwing in a shuriken (spike) manner. Any input regarding the method will be a great help.

That is how I am doing it. I never noticed the fingertip brush until now--it is very subtle.

Do you have any experience throwing knives rather than shuriken in this manner. Basically, because of the center balance of the SOG, it behaves like a big spike. I'll see if I can get 18'. Right now, I am at 10' with a 6" target.

Thanks again.

Personally, I use the shuriken technique, often with 8" nails since they're so cheap. I always cut the heads off first to make the throw smoother.

Personally, I find the mentality to have when throwing is not so much that I have to keep the perfect form described in books, but mostly to put my body into it, and to "push the spike into the target" as though it were close in front of me. Also, I don't conciously release the spike; if I'm in proper form, it just flies out when it's in the right position. I find that with this in mind, the spikes stick more often, and more accurately.
