im thinking of getting a condor scout hatchet and a knife to pair with it. so was curious of what some of you might recommend :P, would prefer to keep the knife $30 or under but can wiggle a bit if needed, and probably somewhere around the 4" range.

Thanks,
Scott

Condor Rodan or Condor Bushlore.

Great everyman knives for $22-35 depending where you look. Perfect for pairing with the hatchet.

I just ordered a couple of Mora Companion Heavy duties. You might consider those. The hatchet is already doing the really tough stuff.

i guess ill go with the bushlore, was already looking at it a bit, also had my eye on the nessmuk but i think it would be better to have a tip on the knife.
and i would like to try out mora's too sometime, but then i dont really like the way they look, and why get something that works and doesnt look good when you can get something that works and looks good ;)

Because sometimes the ugly tool works better! But as a general rule you're right, all other factors being considered equal. :)

mhm, well i mean if your going against say... a Mora, and a Winchester folding knife..... but for 2 eaqually capable tools, might as well choose the pretty one :), also do you know when you might get the scout hatchet and the bushlore back in stock?

Yes--exactly. Sometimes more money goes towards looks than function, sometimes the opposite, but if the two pieces perform equally well then go with the pretty one, providing they're in the same price range you have budgeted. :)

Hopefully soon...but my primary distributors are out of stock so I'll need to check with some of my "backup" sources. If they're out then it's anyone's guess! :o

ok, no problem, not really in any big rush or anything. would rather wait to buy from someone that i know is trusted, than some random guy on amazon or ebay :P

well obviously it depends on the one you get, i was mainly refering to the more popular models like the companion. also the condor comes with a leather sheath rather than a fairly thin plastic one (not at all worries about where the blade goes in but the belt loop looks very fragile) and even though it only costs 15 bucks or so i still wouldnt like to reach for my knife to find it isnt there :P

For reference the belt loops are pretty tough. I can't envision myself breaking one in normal use.

Personally, I would get the Condor Bushlore. It is everything one needs in an affordable bushcraft knife. And it isn't too bad on the eyes. (OK, so the sheath ain't too hot)

Sand the grip, touch-up the edge, and you have a very good outdoors knife.

i actually rather like the sheath for the condors, nice, simple, and to the point.
also thank's for verifying that the mora sheath belt loops are not as fragile as they look :P still rather have the condor though :P
