Knife to Pair with my CS Frontier Hawk

Hello everyone, once again I am seeking the advice of all you knowledgeable knife nuts. So lately I've been carrying my CS Frontier Hawk and I love it, so much that it has replaced most of my knife duties(not all of course). Now I have been pairing it with an ESEE-6(which I love) but I feel that my hawk can duplicate/excel in most of the chores I would use the knife for, so not sure what I should do. I was thinking of maybe pairing it with either the Izula II or the Eskabar, and was somewhat leaning towards the Eskabar do to the bigger blade size but I do love my ESEE products and for the price its hard to beat either of them. But on the other hand I was also maybe thinking instead of either of those I go with the BK16 or something the lines of that size. I am very open to your suggestions, just curious if any of you have run into the same problem or have any opinions on what would work best? I mostly hike and camp with some overnight treks.

And as always thanks in advance.(PS: If there is already a thread to this topic I'm sorry for duplicating)

I think your def heading in right direction. I love my eskabar and bk16. I think either one w/ homemade or tommythewho wooden scales would look pretty cool w/ your hawk.

If I must choose, I love em both but my thinking would be this. If strictly for hiking / camping I would go bk16 for the additional handle/blade length. If for more of an Edc roll. Bk14 for its ease of carrying. You should also consider your hand size vs handle length.

The obvious answer is to get both eventually :). Good luck, you can't go wrong w/ either one.

Thanks Tueller! If I were to get the Eskabar I would EDC it to replace my Spyderco. I just seem to like the fixed blade feel a bit more then the folder, must just be a self conscious thing. And don't get me wrong I freaking love my ESEE-6 just think its a little redundant to carry it with my hawk. Just thinking I want something a little more firm when it comes to smaller tasks as the 5 3/4" blade is great and it will do most of what I ask but for the weight vs functionality with the hawk it just seems like I could carry something smaller/lighter to do the more fine work with carving/notching. I mean I hate not using it its just that the BK16 is half its weight and the BK 14/ Eskabar / Izula II are a 1/3 of the weight.

I have every one of the cutting tools that you've mentioned, and I have taken every one of them into the Boreal forest here in Canada. Basically what has happened to my choices over the years is a tendency to go lighter and smaller. If you want your hands free use a necker. I run my Izula 2's and bk-16 as neckers. I rarely use my ESEE6 anymore and tend to grab a variation of the Mora Companions for the outdoors. I find the Frontier hawk to be borderline too light and small to be very effective for wood processing. The Rifleman is superior for chopping and splitting, but you pay for it in weight, and ugliness. I sawed the hammer head off mine actually. Were I am at now is a decent small axe or hatchet, like a Wetterlings or Granfors Bruks, a folding saw (order from MEC and get them in high vis. orange) and a couple of small knives like a mora and a back up necker. Not much weight, hands are more or less free, totally if you run a small back pack, and you have all the primary shelter\fire making tools. Lately I have picked up a couple of Fiskars axes. I got the tiny hatchet (love it), and the X25 splitter (good but head heavy). I toss both the Fiskars in the car trunk and always have wood processing beaters. Actually I shouldn't call them beaters, as they are pretty decent tools, particularly after a few sharpenings. This is not written in stone and I am far from knowing it all, so you have to make your own choices bud. I'm just another older fart that wanders around out there calling back to the evening Coyotes. :)

Absolutely the Esee 6 is awesome. You will be all set. For a one cutting tool outing, Esee 6 all the way. It will chop, cut and slice. But for when you can take two tools, the hawk and a smaller knife will give you more precise, task specific options.

I also started Edcing fixed blades and haven't looked back. I love em. A bk14 and a multitool/sak is an awesome Edc duo.

Good luck and let us know what u go with. The bk14 is shorter money and u can always add a 16 later.

And for Christ sake... Pics!!!

Either one of the knives you are considering would be a great choice. You really can't go wrong with either. It's really all up to you as far as which one you prefer.... And by all means, post pics when you get one.
