Knife tool-kit?

 I'm looking for a decent little tool-kit for general knife maintainance (tightening the pivot, etc.) Nothing too in-depth but, rather, the basic tools necessary for simple/routine care. Thanks for any help!

It depends on the knife you have in mind, but I got a set of bits at Sears that comes with a bit driver and full sets of Torx, square drives, hex drives, phillips, slot, and maybe more. I don't see it on their website any more, but any relatively complete bit set with smaller Torx sizes should make short work of almost any knife. The sets can be cheaper than buying individual pieces. I would go to Lowe's or Home Depot if I were looking for one today.

Look for Torx down to size 6 since that is required for many Benchmade clips.

Benchmade sells a Torx bit set, but I have read that it is not good quality.

Lurker,
Many thanks. I just purchased a Kershaw "Black Vapor II". I decided to test the liner lock. In the open position there was no blade play with the liner lock engaged. But then I thumbed the liner lock aside (with the blade still deployed) and, this time, there was some blade play. I have a little Precision Craft tool with the hex wrenches but, for some reason, the 5/64 one fits but it won't tighten it. I fear I may have stripped it. But, searching the internet, I have yet to find a dedicated knife-repair kit.

The pivot bolts of many knives are held tight with an adhesive such as Loktite. They can be hard to adjust at first. Heating them helps weaken the adhesive. If there is no blade play with the lock engaged, I would advise against adjusting it. I don't see the purpose and you are likely to make it worse rather than better. It is a delicate adjustment.

I wouldn't bother searching for a "knife repair kit." You just need the correct tools, but they are for many uses, not just to repair knives.

I've used and like Craftsman torx drivers. I think they're $4 a piece. I bought just the sizes (T-6, T-8) I need.
