Let's say I post a knife for trade and say I really want "Knife A". But I would also be interested in "Knife B", "Knive C" or "Knife D"
Someone emails me right away with an offer for a great "Knife D".
Do you think I need to make a deal with him? Or is it reasonable for me to say, "OK. I'm interested, but I want to see what other offers I get first"?

I'd thank him for the reply and tell him you'll be in touch if your first priorities aren't available. You were upfront when you posted the message, no reason to change now.

I think it's reasonable as well, and agree that you must be up front. It would be polite to state a time limit as to when you'll make your decision. And it is also reasonable that the other fellow can still make deals with his knife to someone else in the meantime.

I think it would be perfectly reasonable to ask him to wait a little while.

I think the important thing to remember for both sides is that no one is obligated to accept any offer. As long as you are polite and honest about it it's all right.
