Knife Travel Case Recommendation

I'll be moving soon and I have one nice custom that I'd like to get a secure and solid travel/storage option for. Pelican cases generally fit that bill, but the prices are a bit steep in the size I require (knife OAL is between 12 and 13", max width is 3", max handle depth is 1"). I don't necessarily need it to be water tight, just something to keep it safe from jostling, and perhaps any accidental 4-5 foot drops. Any recommendations in the sub $50 area, or are Pelican cases the only route?

Do you REALLY need hi-tech case for it? Wrap the knife to newspaper and lots and lots of tape if you are afraid.. and if still afraid, repeat again.
I would buy the case if you had to repeatedly carry something. Buy whisky instead.

Get a cardboard box and cut it up long enough to cover your knife a few times (like a sandwich) and then duct tape the heck out of it.

Buy Kaizen foam on Amazon and make your own case out of anything you own already.

One time move wrap in bubble wrap several times and tape it. It'll be secure.

Look at 4 pistol gun cases in a briefcase style, average $25 to $60 from what I saw.
Aluminum frame padded foam interior.
I'm getting the same thing to carry my competition chopper in when I travel.

I usually just use my watch "tacos" (cases) for my folders when I travel...zippered with soft felt liners, and maybe a sleeve pocket inside. They're very similar to what Reate, CKF, and some mid tech knife makers use.

I use this: less than 5 dollars

I agree with what everyone is saying here. A Pelican is definitely "NICE" to have. Honestly, I would probably buy a pelican too. However, just know that they become bulky.

In the end it depends on you, and if money, size, brand, how often you travel really matters.

One of these..I like them. Cheap and padded. More than enough protection for your move. They come in 64 slot cases too I believe.

gun cases have the most diversity. Lots of different shapes, sizes, hard cases, etc. Wrap the blade up in a towel, shop cloth, nothing, etc. and it will be completely fine.
