There was a contemporary of D. Boone who spent his life in the woods and was called "The Woodsrunner". This was a man who lived with his knife and 'hawk. I cannot remember his name. Can you help?

I dont know who "woodsrunner" is but I think Daniel Boone was a member of a group called the "Rangers" They were a group of frontiersmen who were known for indian fighting and survival in the wilderness.
Maybe this woodsrunner was a member of the rangers.
You might be able to search that way for this person. Or maybe they were all nicknamed "woodsrunners"
Anyway good luck I dont know if I helped you or not
Good knife hunting

Search so far looks like it was a generic term for a woodsman who traded with the Indians without government permit, though Rorik name showed up (without dates). Could have swore I saw something in the American Heritage site.

But I'm thinking maybe Robert Rogers, born 1731. He seemed to have an interesting life.geocities.com/dttmember/RangerRiflemenSketchbook.html

Could it have been Simon Kenton? I've never heard of him called Woodsrunner, but he certainly could run. He was able to shoot, reload and shoot again, all without breaking stride. He lived an amazing life, so he's worth researching whether he's the Woodsrunner or not.
