Does anybody know what the brand of knife was that Crocodile Dundee carried in the first movie?

cant remember exactly, but I think AG Russell had a very close copy of this knife several years ago. Give them a call and they may be able to help -- Charles

Do a search on the forums for Dundee + Bowie. I'm sure you'll find it eventually. May take some digging though.

Wasn't the sheath great?

Isn't it interesting the way some lines from movies enter our everyday language? Example; remember in the first movie when Hogan laughs at the would-be mugger's switchblade and says "That's not a knfe,THAT'S a knife." and pulls out that big Bowie. I don't know how many times I've done that to people who pull out a little ten dollar keychain knife to cut something and I hand them a big Spydie or Buck. THAT'S A KNIFE!

G'day Frag, hope this info helps. The Dundee knife used in both movies was designed and made by New South Wales gunsmith John Bowring. The design was inspired by the Puma bowie, to which John added a few ideas of his own. In all six bowies wre made, most of which were safe aluninium props. I have paraphased this info from Keith Spencers "Guide to Australian Custom Knives" second edition.
Keith may be able to help you further. Contact him at

yobbos,

It's great when I goto the work parties for my gun club.
At my gun club I'm sort of the resident "Knife guy", so it's a real hoot when a fellow pulls out their SAK or Gerber to use the blade for something that obviously needs something bigger, and I pull out my "work knife" (A Becker Knight & Tool Combat/Utility 7). Some of the reactions I get are just hilarious :P

I love that bit in the Simpsons where they parody that scene, and Dundee pulls out a spoon. " I see you've played knifey spoony before!"
