Knife vs Telescope baton

I'm considering buying a ASA telescope baton to use in addition to a knife (for self-defense) would that be a good idea? If anyone have experiences or views on a tactical baton please share, thank you! Is it too heavy to carry around? Anyone got to use one in a real life situation? Would a knife be enough and is there any real need for a baton? (hope this subject isn't too much off-topic)

The baton doesn't hold an edge any better than a gun does.
