I want to hear about any knife or multi-tool you sent in to have repaired under warranty.

The one and only item I have ever sent in for repair was my leatherman wave. They replaced it with a new one :)

Leatherman seems to have a great warranty.

What have your experiences been like in sending a item back for warranty repair?

Good thread.

Sent two blades in to Spyderco for warranty. Both came back looking like new. If they didn't have the same serial numbers, I would've thought them replaced.

Also have sent one in to Emerson. Since it was a mistake out of the box, I just sent it to them. They sent it back on their dime, absolutely flawless.

I second Leatherman's warranty! My Micra got dull because I used it as wire cutters, sent them an email about it, and they said they would cover it!

Leatherman's warranty is great, they basically stand behind their product 100%.
CRKT tries to do a good job, they don't mind if I take the knife apart either. I think there's a slacker in the warranty department that sometimes make some sloppy jobs. I've mailed in a C/K 3" PE to be repaired along with a typed list about what should be done, and the guy hardly complete half the list. However the customer service is great, when I ask them about that they would basically do anything to fix it. I told them I could have the parts myself and replace them. They shipped them.
I've yet to be able to comment on spyderco's warranty, cause I've sent an Endura and a 204 fine rod in and I've yet to see them come back (stupid post office).

Never have had to send a knife in, but I did need a couple of small parts for my Spyderco Military and I had them within a couple of days. Great customer service.

I have found spyderco's warranty service to be excellent. Received a replacement delica with better blade steel (yay!). Turnaround was a bit slower than I'd expected, but I checked on the package and the delay was in the USPS, not on spyderco's end. More than satisfied.

i sent in my wifes leatherman that broke while she was trying to fix a door latch on our p/u after some one tried to break in to it at wal-mart.
in the letter we explained how it happened and asked for them to contact us with the cost of repair.
they fixed it with no charge and returned the check we had sent to cover shipping.
FWIW, i did post about this on the GBU forum so that others would see the level of service Leatherman has.

I am about to find out about leatherman's warranty, having just sent two back for service. A Wave and a Micra were both loose out of the box, just not good manufacturing tolerance. Sending them back was their suggestion, and we'll see what happens.

To the best of my knowledge, no one beats Buck's warranty. Whatever is wrong with your knife, send it back and they will fix it. A little play that was within their manufacturing tolerance but annoying to me? No problem.

Broke a tip doing something stupid with the knife? Again, no problem, though CRKT, Spyderco and Camillus have both turned me down on similar problems. (for a while I was doing stupid things with knives)

Want a knife reconditioned, that you bought in crappy condition at a flea market? Again, send it in for repair.

Want something special done? They'll go out of their way to help. (I have a story about left-handed sheaths I'll keep off the forums).

I have never found a company, in ANY field, that has as good warranty service as Buck. They are the best.

Nothing against any of the other companies, either mentioned or not mentioned as there are some real good ones out there, but Buck certainly sets the bar on customer service. Considering their price point in the overall market I think it nothing less than extraordinary. Buck is a great company run by and having some really great people.

My only warranty experience was with Spyderco. I sent a package with an early Bob T model to be resharpened, a Military that had vertical blade play while the lock was engaged and a note with instructions to please fix the Military and sharpen the Bob T. When I got them back, the Bob T was sharpened but they didn't do anything to the Military and included a note saying that the Bob T was too old to be fixed under warranty. Since I needed the Military fixed, I knew that there was a mix-up and I sent the Military back in and it was promptly fixed and a phone call from Customer Service. I was not upset since mistakes do happen and I still buy more Spyderco's than any other brand.

< - - - -knockin' on wood (nothing knotty near. . .so tappin' on head)

I'm in the good column !

Spyderco wins hands down to me.
Sent in a Spyderco Stainless Handle Police that I had used while at work to cut some wires in a car that were arching near fuel, I cut the wires fine but when I went to shut the knife I found out that the blade had been melted down so bad that it would not shut and that the blade was welded to the handle,( dont ask how I didnt get shocked I have no clue) anyway sent the knife in about 7-10 days later recieved a Knife in perfectly brand new shape, never figured out if they replaced it or fixed it but either way it was fixed, this was above and beyond anything any companys warranty covers so Spyderco gets a A+++++ for that one.

Benchmade: does well also, although I have had to beg with them sometimes to get stuff done, they have come through in the end.

Al Mar: Took a couple of phone calls and returned phone calls to get a clip replaced that had a flaw in it that caused it to crack, not bend and break but crack. Washard getting hold of them and getting a call returned but once I did there was no argument or anything the clip was sent promptly out.

Score Card:

Spyderco A+++++
Benchmade A-
Al Mar B

I've sent knives/tools back to Gerber, Ontario, and Benchmade. All were returned repaired to my satisfaction, or replaced.

I have found the entire industry to be flawless with one exception and that was REKAT who once refused to fix a knife with a sticky pivot. It had some kind of burr somewhere I think and they claimed it was an "adjustment problem" without ever having seen the knife. I was a little embarrassed that they didn't think I had enough knife knowlege to know a defect in a knife but, apparently, they didn't. I've never encountered a negative warranty issue anywhere else in the industry at all.

I found one Spyderco incident interesting and I'll relate it. I returned a knife (from inventory, not a personal knife) because it had an ill fitting lock and had been returned by a customer (and appropriately so.) It was a discontinued model. They responded that their stock of parts and knives had been depleted and they couldn't deal with my knife the way they'd like to. They asked me to choose another knife of equal value. I did so. They sent me both the original knife with the ill fitting lock (which I discarded) and the brand new knife I had chosen to replace it. I'd call that going the extra mile.

I once sent in my AFCK to BM to get the liner replaced 'cos it had gone too far to the other side.

They replaced it and sent it back to me with no hassles.

I broke the tip off a spyderco endura during normal use. I sent it back to get it reground/replaced and they sent it back broken. This was favorite knife. Now I don't buy spyderco.

Spyderco Help
I returned my Spyderco/Centofante to Colorado for repair of a busted blade, and they repied that it could not be repaired or replace, since it's been discontinued.
They did offer to replace it with something of equal value, since it was a mnfg. defect.
Now here's the catch, they gave me a $129.95 credit to use however I want, from their catalog,(all prices are MSRP)
What combination of knives would you go for staying within $5 of the amount allowed, to get the most from the catalog?
I was leaning towards the mini Police necklace/MN07 $75.95 and the C64 Meerkat $54.95 total $130.90
I,ve got till the first week in June to decide, otherwise they send the broken knife back.

That was from a previous post by me, the tail end was that Mike Hayes and the warranty Dept. at Spyderco were great, they responded quickly and credited me for a knife I broke that was at least 7 or 8 years old already.
:D
