Hi folks,
Some people who pass by my store are at the sight of knives only thinking about murder and homicide. For me it´s a sign what these people have in there mind.
Please tell me what you use your knives for. And perhaps you write it also on my homepage.
Thank´s
Thomas

Thomas, the first thing I try to use any of my new knives for is cutting food, especially fruits and vegetables, bread and rolls. Of course, a few are just inappropriate for that, like a small hawksbill, but especially big knives are really useful in a kitchen, even if a smaller blade could get the job done.

The main thing I do with knives is open packages. I see no point in sloppily ripping open a box when it can done neatly with a knife. Knives are also great for slicing up old boxes, making them easier to dispose of. Like Esav, I find pocket knives great for food preparation
especially slicing and peeling fruit. Knives also come in handy for electrical work and other daily utility. Folks who look askance at your knives surely have scissors, box cutters and kitchen knives and probably a SAK or a Leatherman too.

Chopping wood, shaving wood, cutting poa out of greens (everyday), cutting food, cutting cardboard, cutting rope, prying, scraping, screwing, ect. Don't worry I only use my benchmades as screwdrivers.
I consider them my true use knives. I also consider them disposable:D
BTW: I have done some serious prying with my folders and never broken one of them.

I use my knives in many of the same ways that both Esav and Anthony utilize their blades.
At work, I use them to cut rope, rubber straps, vehicle electrical wires, etc.. Sometimes I may need them to slice and dice my food, such as hamburger steak, chicken fried steak(when plastic utensils are not available), and fruit.
At home, I open letters/packages, hard to open candy wrappers for my kids, cutting coupons out of the Sunday paper, cutting down cardboard boxes for easier disposal, etc.. These are just a few of the many things that my knives are used for, it is sad to think that many people don't see the usefulness of a good blade.:(

Murder and homicide..... But at work I use knives to cut food, cardboard boxes, bags, and some carpentry. BTW, I work at a restaurant.

paperweight :D

just half kidding (SOG Winder II on my desk now... acting as paperweight)

but mostly my edc is for whatever chores I may need a knife to do... like cutting string, occassionally rope & cordage... I even *gasp* use my knife to pry occassionally.

and opening packages. I work as a designer so I come across a fair number of packages that are sent to me (paper samples) or when I'm over at my printers' plants... often I can quickly open a pack of papers to inspect them (with my printer around of course)... or just plain whittling when I get bored...

For attacking the kevlar-like inner packaging of cereal boxes. This morning, I had to employ a BM 710 to free the treasure inside a box of Vanilla Almond Crisp. Sure miss the good ol' days when tools weren't needed for Raisin Bran.

I use knives for food preparation, I carry knives for self defense, but what I most frequently do with knives is "playing". When I for example watch TV, talk with my wife or surf through the internet I need a knife in my hand. I have knives which handles look like a hard used knife but their blades never cut anything.

Last nite I prepared dinner - cut meat, vegetables, garlic, etc. with a 4" fixed blade utility knife. This past weekend, that same knife.... cut rope, feed sacks (animal feed), cardboard boxes (for recycling), split small wood to make kindling for a fire (fire used to cook meat mentioned above), took small suckers off of a tree to gather leaves to feed goats, and cut high grass around some baby tree trunks and water spigots (I don't like powered weed cutters).

Today, I didn't...
... get any packages (Coming tomorrow.)
... cook anything (Leftovers.)
... chop any trees down (Apartment.)
... cut any tires off my car (AAA service.)
... rescue anyone in a car wreck (Vacation.)
... cut any coupons from the Sunday paper (Monday.)
... get firewood (Central gas heating.)
... ....

... uh...

Today, my knives...

<whisper>
<i>I admired them.</i>
&lt;/whisper&gt;

:eek:

I feel so dirty. :D

Knives perform much better when they feel admired and appreciated. You were simply practicing regular maintenance. I often do the same.
