Knife when running & sweating

I carry a gun when out but choose not to when jogging (and don't suggest a fanny pack). I'd like to carry a defensive blade in its place but it needs to be impervious (or near it) to rust as I'll be sweating quite a bit and possibly holding it to avoid having it jostle in my thin shorts.

Suggestions?

Most stainless won't have too much of a problem with sweat. And certainly not if you wipe it off. I'm pretty sure you could run with a non-stainless blade and as long as you rinsed and wiped it off afterwards you'd be fine. Maybe a neck knife with a nice soft paracord around the neck and a little retention strap on the sheath if retention is a concern? If you pocket clip it I'd be somewhat careful with all the bouncing and jostling and mesh shorts.

Don't worry about the sweat and rust though. Just wipe it off afterwards. If your not running for 5-10+ hours at a time you won't even patina a non stainless blade.

You're going to be running, sweating and holding a knife in your hand?
I suggest you not do that.

I used to carry a SOG Trident (black blade) or a Kershaw Shallot (black coated) when running. No corrosion issues with either. Also, as far as the jostling goes, clipping the knife on the inside of the waistband right on the outside of your hip - kind of near where the outside lateral seam is if there is one - minimizes jostling, maximizes retention, and has almost no issues with chafing or affecting form.

I run 5-7 miles at a time, 3x a week. I say this to inform you that I'm not some armchair guy that isn't walking the walk. I carry a Ka-bar agama spearpoint folder when I run, clipped to my shorts. I like it because it is inexpensive in case I lose it but strong enough to rely on it. I think there are a lot of folders that fit this category, and there is nothing whatsoever special about this knife. I don't feel that it is too floppy clipped to my shorts or anything like that. I just don't want to lose a ZT or benchmade on a run. I personally would find it annoying to have a knife clipped to the waistband ( possible chafing and all ), it's just always worked clipping it to my nylon mesh shorts pocket. I congratulate you on running. It is so addicting. I would die if I couldn't run regularly.

If you really want impervious to rust then a Spyderco H1 would be good, perhaps a Tasman or Salt 1, or a Pacific Salt if you prefer a bigger blade. And these are pretty light knives as they do not have steel liners.

second on the spyderco H1. First thing that came to mind. They have a couple of there popular model done in "salt" edition that uses H1.

Never had a rust-problem with any stainless folder, primarily VG-10 and 154CM, while being physical. I even carried some clipped to the inside of my shorts directly in contact with my hip.

+3. I personally have't owned one to test for myself, but theyre supposed to never rust.
You should look into it.
