I'm curious if anyone has written their knife collection into their will.

Do you plan to leave them behind for someone?
Maybe you won't mind if they are sold as estate property?
What are some of the concerns regarding making the decision should some unfortunate incident occur?

One of the things I would like to do is leave my collection for someone who will respect and appreciate it. The problem lies in the fact that I'm the only one in my family who is into knives as much as I am. I have a first cousin that will likely receive some and possibly my own kids. Beyond that, the wife would sell 'em, and I can't see giving them up for debts but if I'm dead what choice do I have?

A penny for your thoughts?

I really feel sorry for whoever gets to settle my estate. I figure since I'll be dead, I'm not really going to care what happens to the massive accumulation of crap I have. At least the guns and knives should sell for enough to cover the cost of cremation and burial in a post hole

I worry about two things...
Wife will go to sell them and get pennies on the dollar they are worth
Wife will find out how much they are worth, and regularly curse me out when she visits my grave.

If I die before I have a son, my brother takes them. Otherwise, my kid gets them. There are some knives that, according to some weird family tradition, are supossed to be pased down from grandfather to grandchild, so those would go to my brother until some new kids were in the picture.

I just hope they keep my collection more or less together and that they use the crap out of all my blades.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm taking mine with me. If that is not allowed I'm not going!

Not a bad idea. At least I'll be armed in the afterlife right?:)

I just asked someone knowledgeable who told me that they would be part of the "personalty" (personal property) in the will.

So whoever you leave your personal property to in your will, that's who will get the knives.

However, you can leave them specifically to someone, separate from your other personal property.

But you would have to do it the "right way" in your will depending on the laws of your state. (And when I started to ask more questions, she said she was going to start charging me!)

That's how I understood it, FWIW.

If you have a will, (and you should) you can make specific bequests to whoever you want. You could even leave instructions about how to sell your knives (i.e. if there is a dealer that you trust).

I'm so anal I have to discuss a poop before doing one.

Which means..... I already have a file of all guns and knives with price paid and general value assigned.

Got started with the coins. Ya GOTTA do it fer them.

:)

I've made my wishes clear with my wife. I told her the exact knife I want to be buried with, which of my other knives I want given to family members and friends and the name of a dealer I trust to help her sell all that remain. I don't have this in a will but I do have it all written up and stored in a safe place.

Which one? To be decided?

As it stands now it is one of the first custom knives I ever bought. It is a pattern welded Sgain Dubh made from high carbon steel and meteor iron by Salamander Armory . I bought it new in the 70's. I don't know if it is a Jim Hrisoulas blade or not but it probably is.
