I'm going to be speaking with Ed Caffrey about ordering my first 'truly' custom knife (meaning I am going to specify materials, blade length, grind, and general shapes). I not sure exactly what it will be yet other than a fixed blade with a 4 to 6 inch blade. The design of that knife will start to evolve after I speak with Ed.
But what I'm really excited about is a project that PJ Tomes thought of while we spoke at the Chesapeake show last weekend. I am a hobbyist woodcarver. I have some handmade carving knives (large swelled handles, short blades), but these were not made from properly heat treated steels. In fact, a lot of the original temper was probably burned out of them in the shaping of the small blades. PJ offered to make me some wood carving knives from 52100 steel with the right heat treatment. I am really anxious to have several of these made by such a fine knifemaker and person. I was very surprised by his offer, because these knives will be very small and one of a kind and probably not very profitable for PJ. But he seems to want to do it because he knows his work will be used hard to produce beautiful things. And of course, he probably realizes that someone as loquacious as me is the best advertisement for his work he could find
Mine would be to make the BM stryker into an AXIS LOCK___I even wrote the company on this one, they said that they might consider it (yea right) but that would be pretty nice. I like the M2 idea too
I hope to get a Speedtech Synergy sometime soon. I really want to get my hands on one before I commit to anything, and the way it looks I am going to have to wait until the Blade show in Atlanta to do that. Also I am trying to figure out how many handle colors are available. I have seen a few that are not listed on their website.
