Knife with a shield on both sides, possibly only on the pile side - pic request

I hope that I'm not going crazy but I seem to remember seeing a picture of a custom fixed blade where the person had the maker put a shield on both sides of the handle. I can not remember exactly where I saw it but it had to have been within the traditional forum somewhere as I don't venture far from here.

If anyone can help me out, especially if you're the owner, it would be very appreciated! I'm wondering how the shield was affixed to both sides. I'm guessing that the shields were epoxied in or was there someway that they were pinned as well.

If this was a slipjoint however, then yes I'm going crazy but I'd like to see the picture again anyhow to ease my mind since I can not find it. It makes sense that it could have been a folder since the shields would be pinned through the liners.

Thanks!!

Haha, I knew there was going to be some sort of wise guy replies soon enough! At least you didn't fill page after page with all of your SAK's!

Like I said, I can not remember where I saw the picture. I've scanned so many threads and it's pretty daunting going through them page by page looking.

I think it was a custom slipjoint you're remembering. Maybe my old brain will recall who posted it. No guarantee though.

Was it this one? I had Ken Coats make this one for me with an Ace of Spades shield on both sides.

Rick, I think I missed seeing your Ken Coats custom the first time around - NICE! OH

Thanks guys. Unfortunately, I don't own the knife anymore and I deleted all of my own pics. The pic I posted in this thread is the pic that Ken took when the knife was complete. I've seen pics from the current owner posted in this forum but it has been a while.

When I ordered the knife Ken didn't have a die for an Ace of Spades shield so he made one to accommodate my request.

I still want another knife with this shield but I don't know if that will ever happen.

I think Kerry Hampton made a couple of slipjoints with double shields, but could not find the pics. It was several years ago. Also, Moore Maker puts double shields on their knives, mark side with logo and the pile side just smooth.

Thanks for the pics and links but it wasn't the knife I'm remembering. Heck it may have just been a fixed blade that only had the shield on one side. I remember the poster put up a picture and said he had the maker do something different, something that you don't see often and it had to do with the shield...

I'm probably confusing everyone reading this thread as much as I seem to be confused over it!

Reason for asking is that I'm on the waiting list for Bret Dowell. When my turn comes around I wanted to have him do something different for me and I was thinking of a folder and fixed blade set, making the knives look almost the same (except for pattern obviously), possibly double shields on both knives. For this reason, all other aspects of the knife will be understated so that the shields stand out.

I know the double shield on the folder isn't a probably....it's the fixed blade that may present an issue with how the shields would be affixed. I just wanted to try and find that picture again!

I'm no expert or knife builder, but it seems to me a double shield on a fixed blade would be fairly easy. Solder or braze the shields to a cutlers rivet, drill the scales and tang for the rivet, inlay the scale for the shields, viola, pinned double shields on a fixed blade, and as an added bonus, the shields help secure the scales. :)

Thanks, Christian, that's the one I remembered, as I knew it was for Campbell. That is a GREAT knife!

That's not it either lol. You guys are a huge help though, plus you're bringing up some beauties for everyone to look again.

For all I know now, the person may have been left handed and the shield was only placed on the pile side (for us righties). I swear it's a fixed blade! I've been through the few fixed blade specific threads and I didn't find it. Leads me to believe it was in the Totin' Today thread which would take a few weeks of steady scrolling to get through it.

I seem to remember Blues maybe getting a double shield slipjoint that isn't the ones listed. But no maker comes to mind. And my picture files are a jumbled from switching to a new computer!
