so me and my boyfriend went to the river and found a small island where everything gets washed up to I'm guessing because of the dead animal skeleton and sunglasses and trees that were washed up there. I came across a blade in a wooden sheath that has leather on the outside and was sewn together with some kind of thread. The handle of the knife had been broken off and there are symbols carved in the blade that look like they were hand carved. I need someone to point me in the right direction on what to do with/about this.

Maybe it wasn't an animal skeleton. 🏴‍☠️

Frontiersman's knife, maybe that's a beaver and a deer cut into it.

It's long and thin, which would be a great fishing fillet knife.

I am certain some hobbyist maker did this. it's very cool.

Beyond this I have no idea.

Others? Thoughts?

Would like to see a photo of the entire knife and sheath. The engraving and sheath sticking looks like it could be something out of North Africa, or sub-Sahara Africa. John

Where was this found? USA? Australia? Not enough info.

Edit.

Never seen anything like it, but it's neat.

beware of the freaky hatian voodoo knife

The patina and wear on the sheath look right -- like it could possibly be quite old..
Being that they are in Texas maybe something of Spanish/Mexican or native American (trade) origin?

good guess on the beaver inscription, could it be a turtle as well?
