Knife with wear OOTB?

Any of you fellas ever buy a "brand new" Benchmade and found wear on the knife when you take it out? I bought a 581 Barrage off of Ebay for $140(I guess that already should be a red flag) with the dealer claiming he bought it straight from Benchmade, unused and new.

I'm fairly convinced that it isn't "new" especially when there was some sort of grime that accumulated in the aluminum grip, and there is noticable pocket clip and aluminum grip scuff marks when shined under a light. If my pictures aren't any good I'll post better ones upon request.

Sorry if this isn't the right subforum for this question, but I figured it was Benchmade related.

Could have been on display (ie, handled by the let-me-check-that-one-out-ers) at dealer's store? If it's an online only dealer, that'd be a little weird, yeah. Blade itself appears clean / unscuffed. Also, that finish on the pocket clips, even new direct from BM, have a "weathered" look to them naturally.

The pocket clips on all of my Benchmades have looked like that too out of the box in that finish. As far as in the grooves go I'm not sure about that. Looks like a really nice knife though!

Thanks all for the responses. I honestly don't know how I should feel right now whether I should be upset I was conned or just let it go.

That knife has definitely been handled quite a bit. It would never leave the factory that way. The clip finish is normal. If it doesn't bother you just wipe the grooves out on the bolster to clean it up. Otherwise send it back.

Curious question does the blade look to be dinged up a bit, or is it just the aluminum grip itself? I guess what I'm trying to get at here is if it's worth what I paid on the assumption that it's a used item and has seen use.

Tough to really tell if the blade has any use from the pictures (one photo zoomed looks rather rough on the edge though) but if you're dissatisfied send it back for another or a refund as advised by our friendly neighborhood Benchmade rep.
I would because if you don't like it now chances are you never will.

Benchmade as usual killing the customer service game!

The blade is a stonewash finish which is essentially a ton of little dings. Tough to tell from the pics but the ding looks normal.

I was wondering if that residue in the bolster grooves could be leftover buffing compound.

Well... MAP on that knife is $204. You got it for $64 under MAP. If the knife works right, is undamaged, and cleans up OK, you might want to consider how big a discount you got it for. OTOH... if you've got to have "NIB" for sure, you'll probably want to send it back and deal with one of the BF supporting dealers. They're far more dependable for selling genuine, and genuinely unused, items than some other sellers are.

Alright, little update on the knife. I ended up returning it after taking a closer look at the tip and realizing that the tip was off center, and at that point I decided I may as well be better off investing extra money to buy a new one if I was already going to spend more money than usual to buy a knife. Thanks for the responses again all.
