I was thinking of having a subscription of this magazine. How would you rate it ?

I had it for a year and I liked it well enough. It primarily focuses on slipjoints and other traditional knives, if that's your thing then you'll like it. The articles are well-written and interesting. The only thing I didn't like was the cheap newspaper style format. The cheesy paper and hard-to-see photos are a drawback. If it was an actual magazine I'd still be subscribed to it.

I like it. As Torz stated, it is actually a newspaper magazine. But it has very interesting articles that mostly deal with older knives. I intend to stay subscribed. Speaking of, now that Christmas is over, I need to subscribe to Bladeforums. Get me a gold membership.

edited to add:
As for the Photos, Even though they are only black and white and printed on newspaper stock (but pretty good newspaper stock) they are usually pretty clear. I have seen much worse photos in Knives Illustrated and Blade magazine.

You will find it more informative than any of the glossy knife magazines. They are all nothing more than glorified press releases for knife companies.

It's my favorite. I get far more info from it than any of the other knife related publications. The low quality newsprint means that photos will suck.

How much you will like it will depend on what kind of knives you like to read about. As has been stated, you are going to find that most of the articles are focused on the more traditional designs.

I completely agree with Mr. Montgomery. I think KNIFE WORLD is the best value in Knife mags. It's got it all... C. Houston Price, Mark Zelesky, BR Levine (whatizit column), Frank Trzaska (military blades), BR Hughes, A show calendar, ect. I like the paper it's printed on, incidently, as it doesn't glare back at me as I read.

'Ilovetoolsteel' makes an excellent point as well.

Phil

ps.. I'd rate this forum above all the glossy magazines. A gold membership here is a better value than all of those put together.

I like the whatizzit column. If you are looking for any kind of commentary on spyderco or any modern expensive knife then it not gonna be in there.

To me, I collect tradtional folders, few tactical, it works well. Its a good, well written magazine (newspaper). I would rate it a 9.

It's my favorite out of them all, I look for it in the mailbox every month.

Great realistic articles, and if your into traditional patterns, it's always a wealth of information.
