knifekits.com?

Which knife are you interested in? I built the GX6 folding dagger with black/blue G10 scales and added a pocket clip. Assembled pretty easily. Filing and sanding the G10 to shape was the most difficult part.

oh sorry wrong link. I'm interested in the All-American lockback, the one with the stag looking handle in the picture.

You buy the scale material separately. That kit should be a bit more difficult since it is pinned together. The GX6 was screwed together.

I've made up several of the kits from knifekits.com as gifts for friends and family. I have always stayed with the DDR-3, GPC-1000, and the GX-6. They are excellent quality kits with cryogenically treated AUS8 steel, and all torx screw construction. I highly recommend them. Here's one I made up recently with Stabilized Macassar Ebony scales for a friends 50th b-day. (sorry about the lousy photo-I'm just now learning to use my new digital camera.)

k thanks for the help, so I assume this site is reliable and the advertised AUS8 is really AUS8?

and what do you tihnk about the FL007?

I've built all but the 007 , I dont like tanto's.
They are excellent kits for the price , you can refine them as much as you want or as little , either way you get a quite decent blade for your buck.
Plus the satisfaction of 'doing it yourself' , also it is a great way to realize the concept of folders.
I've made quite a few as gifts , they make wonderful gifts.
The Gx6 folding dagger is awesome although a bit pricey IMO , it was a pain in the ass to finish but worth every curse word out of my mouth in the end :D Here is a pic of her
01.jpg
scales are Shedua , I did a lot of embellishment on her and it turned out great , I think.
I actually had a good friend of mine offer me 100$ for it but I turned it down since it was my first and I was so pleased with the end result.
The cheaper kits come VERY plain , you can put them together as is and have a fnctional knife inside of an hour with some filing in place , spend some more time and you can customize it anyway you want.
I say go for it , and post pics when you are done.

I sure will, so after making them all, what would you recommend for the absolute beginner (me)

The basic kits 001 , 005 , 006 , 007 are easiest to make and offer an idea on how the costlier kits are assembled.
When you get it in the mail , be sure to make a nice spot on your table , lay everything out seperatly then read the directions a few times until you know what parts are what.
It does not come razor sharp but the edge is refined enough to easily sharpen it in a few minutes , you do not want it that sharp anyway until your finished , stock a few bandaids , I have yet to not cut myself building one of these :D

I've only made one of their kits, it also was the GX6.
I bought my kit directly from Darrel Ralph at one of the NY shows, that's who's behind knifekits.com.

Click on that link to knifekits.com, then click onto Forums, you'll get all the help you'll ever need making one of their kits. Don't miss the Gallery either to see what these kits can end up looking like.

Mine is not on parr, but I'm still proud enough to show it.

Bah ! Looks pretty fine brother :) What kind of wood on the scales ?
I'm tempted to buy another of those kits.

The wood is Cocoabollo <sic>
Ya know I'm tempted to buy another kit myself, hmmmmmm perhaps something in stag.

What's involved with the level one kits? What tools are needed? I live in a dorm, and the only tools I've got with me are a variety of SAKs and multitiools, will I be able to pull it off?
