I know that some make their own sheaths and I am interested in starting to make my own as a hobby. I was looking at the kydex press and rivet system and wanted to know if anyone has used it or what other systems are out there.

Additionally, what are your thoughts on using rivets versus Chicago screws?

I'm pretty sure I'm missing a whole lot regarding this subject and I am doing research so any information more than what I've asked is appreciated.

Thanks.

I've got everything in your pics. It's not the cheapest way to go, but it all works really well. You can make your own press a lot cheaper - just make sure it's sturdy enough to put and hold enough pressure on the warm kydex. I would suggest the rivet press, though. It gives really professional looking results, quick & easy.

I use rivets for most general holes because I like the way they look. The screws are useful when attaching beltloops, other kydex pieces or for tension adjustment. Or you can use 'em just because you like 'em.

I enjoy making my own sheaths, plus other little gadgets. The learning curve is small if everything is well thought out. Just order a couple of extra pieces of kydex to experiment with.
