Howdy There...!
Just thought I would also throw in a few words about Rob. Have you seen his grinder, it is unbelievable. A friend just bought one and it is great, can't see how he does it. It is one of the strongest and smoothest grinder I have ever seen, well worth the bucks.

I received my 5" wheel last week from Rob
It looks great. Good work and a reasonable
price.

Hello all!

Thank you for the kind words.

Robert, Hang in there, the 10" wheels are coming. It is going to take some time though....I hate to promise anything but I don't think I'll have them in a consistant supply for a while. (late spring...?) I know that I've been saying "a few months"...for a few months now and I apologize.

On a brighter note: lets talk about home built machinery.

Here is a buffer/grinder thing that I made a while back. Maybe the photos will give you some ideas. It is somewhat flexible in that I use wheels for right angle grinders such as depressed center flap wheels, cut-off wheels, and depressed grinding disks. Or I can change it over to use wire brushes, flap wheels, buffing pads, scotch-bright finishing wheels...etc. Basically I can use about anything that I can fasten to the spindle shaft.

I cobbled it up from stuff laying around the shop. No plans or drawings. The spindle housing is a home-made casting but a couple of pillow blocks will do just as well.

Robert, these photos are just some food for thought. Hopefully they'll trigger some inspirations.

Take care,

Rob,
I like your ideas on the mounting. Just a couple of observations. If you mount the motor on a swing arm belt tensioning would be easier. Also the use of step pullys would allow speed changes.
Mounting the drive pully in the center would allow you to use both ends for different uses. I admit I sometimes use the wire brush or the 'scotch brite' wheels inapproiately because they happen to be mounted at the time. If the shaft was mounted toward the front would allow more of the wheels to be used.
Thinking again, Lynn
