Does the Knifemaker / Craftsman / Service Provider Membership Level allow one to advertise their goods by posting links to their sales site outside of their hosted knifemaker forum (if they have one) or the KnifeMaker For Sale forums?

Like, in General, for instance?

Are you talking about in their sig line, or in the body of a post?

In the sig line, of course!

In the body of the post, I'll leave that to a mod who knows more than I.

Thanks! I am curious about the "body of a post" question, because I noticed it happening in the body of posts for the first time, and now I'm all confused! :( :)

My understanding is that sales related discussion (including links to a sales thread) should be kept within the respective knife makers forum, sigline, or in the Exchange entirely. A topic in General should not have any intentional sales related material, if it is incidental to the discussion that shouldn't be an issue (as in referencing a specific item and not the sale). A manufacturer's website may be exempt from this for purposes of illustrating a certain model, text, or photo/media. Just my take on it, but the supers have a more definitive answer I'm certain.

Thanks RevDevil...Is a maker promoting their products, workmanship, warranty, customer service, etc (outside of a hosted knifemaker forum or the KnifeMaker For Sale forum) also problematic?

Hard to say exactly, but there seems to be a case by case basis in GKD. Links to well known and established production manufacturers are more acceptable (especially if they have a hosted forum) than say an independent service provider.

Thanks again! Interesting!

So I take it if one does whatever is required to get a hosted forum, then there one is pretty much free to advertise away!

That makes sense. Keeps the more general topic forums free from unwanted promotional posts?

Well it's not necessarily a free for all. If I start a thread about Benchmade knives, and their mod posts in there and puts up a link to his site with page pertaining to the discussion that would be ok. If Benchmade put up a post indicating an item was on sale, then that would not be alright. Context makes the difference, that is why it is case by case.

Certainly.

I'm sure the mod staff is all over any makers who go beyond (or continue to go beyond) the advertising rights that their membership status allows.

Thanks for the info!

How about Gold members promoting the release of their knives in threads disussing their knives?

All these hypotheticals are very hard to discuss. Link to a thread and say what's on your mind.

I just closed williamzeng's thread: What do you think these KIZER new design? It became obvious he was an employee "asking" in order to get exposure for the company.

Kizer Cutlery had to come in to deflect some of the questions, but that's not good enough. Since it is an employee showing off company knives, he has to be up front about it.

Thanks, Esav. That close and your post pretty much answer my question (about Kizer).

No doubt they will get the appropriate membership level that will allow them to promote/discuss ther knives in the appropriate forums. I do want to like them.
