I am interested in purchasing a knife for investment purposes. I would like to know who everyone else thinks are considered "legends" in the field of knifemaking. Any help is appreciated,I have listed a few makers I have heard are very well known.

Jerry Fisk
Walter Brend
Michael Walker
Emerson
Loveless

Thanks, Steve

Don't forget Mel Pardue or Chris Reeve or Jess Horn.

How about Moran, Warenski, and England? Do you just mean guys who are around now or are you including the old masters? Scagel, Lile, Richtig, Ruana, etc.?

Yitz,

I am considering current makers who are well established in knifemaking. I am thinking about either a folder from Emerson or Centofante, and possibly a fixed blade from Brend.I hope to get enough money for one in the next couple month's(hopefully).

A lot will depend on how much you want to spend. There's a huge range. You also need to think about what type of knife you'd enjoy owning. I buy knives with investment in mind, otherwise I'd never spend as much as I do on them, but I'm aware that investing in knives is very tricky, and it's likely that on many of my knives it will be difficult to even recover what I paid for them. You have to love the knives you buy, or you'll be disappointed. So you need to decide, do you want to collect hunters, fighters, art, fantasy, fixed blade, folders, etc. Read stuff like the Knife Annuals by Warner. Look at pictures in Weyer's Points of Interest. Attend shows. Talk to makers and purveyers. All of the above will help you formulate a clearer idea of what you're looking for. Good luck, and ENJOY!

No offense is meant here so hope none is taken. You are never gonna make much profit buying knives one at a time from already established makers(legends). You may be able to make a few hundred if you get one rather cheaply from either someone not aware of current value or desperate for cash.
The trick is to project which of the new makers is going to make it big and then buying ALOT of their knives. Even then, making big profits in knives is risky business.
I suggest you do a search of all posts by Les Robertson(don't go getting a swelled head here Les) and read what he has said about this subject. He makes his living strictly by the resale of custom knives.
Without a large cash investment and a true love of knives, there are much better investments for your money.

With these 6 you can never lose money. Of course unless you get a knife from any of them on the secondary market you will never make money either cause each one has a waiting list longer then my first born daughter, that is if any of them are even still taking orders.
