Got my new Blade mag the other day, and noticed a knifemaker showcase on a maker I'm not familiar with. In this article, there is a statement about his damascus that has me confused. The article states that his blade is a combination of 1040 and 1018 tool steels, and is hot blued. Maybe I'm missing something here, but from what I recall, 1040 doesn't have enough carbon in it to harden much more than a spring, and 1018 won't harden at all. Then, you heat blue the blade, which probably softens the blade even more?

I sure hope they made a misprint, because this doesn't sound like much of a using blade to me.

The next paragraph states that the bolsters are made from a mix containing 52100? Hopefully, they simply got the paragraphs mixed up.
