and my last question is do you knifemakers ever make the handle out of rubber? i got the handle shape from the scrapyard regulator but never seen a custom knife handle made out of some type of rubber so just curious

You forgot to say the magic word... ;)

I've seen custom knives with rubber handles. I'll see if I can find some pics.

Kind regards,

Jos

Most of the knives used in cutting competition have rubber handles.

Posting this in the knifemakers forum would probably get you more responses and some quotes.

You want the blade coated in what?

Roger

Yes, Daniel Winkler makes many knife handles from rubber horse stall mat.
Both comfortable and durable.
I'm a little curious as to how you want the blade coated as well?

yeah what kind of coating? i can go to the hardware store and get some spray paint LOL....im not going to quote you a price with out knowing what kind of coating but with out the coating and hand finished to 400grit around 300.00 plus the cost of the sheath

The profile of the knife looks fine. Actually quite pleasing lines. The lanyard slot is also common.

The upper shot shows a handle with a concave section. Not so common. Almost any good maker will make it with a swell in the middle and a smaller flare at the end. More closely fitted to the hand grip.

I would like the coating for rust protection like you see in esee or busse knives

yea i would like the handle to flare out thicker towards the end

two more questions
whats the difference in cost between micarta and wood handles
also as you can see in the first picture it stays thick until there is 3/4 inch left, is this possible even though it slopes down, but still keep it a full flat grind

ddran, If you want rust protection, you might think about a stainless blade.A lot of modern hunting knives are stainless.

Cheers,
Dave

forget it i wont make a knife thats been spray painted

Is it really that much of a bother to put a coating on? Most carbon steel knives are coated and thats the way is prefer them.

can anybody list some production knives of this style, also what is this style of knife called without choil almost like a kitchen knife
