Hi Folks

I'm getting married soon and we're off to Vietnam for our honeymoon...so of course I am going to be looking for knives (at least it isn't fishing, right? :) Even better, she's encouraging it I'm a very lucky man.

So I was wondering if anyone here is aware of any interesting or good knifemakers or areas known for knifemaking over there...I know it's a long-shot but it can't hurt to ask.

And for those who are wondering - I'm taking a SAK.

See if you can contact forumite "Hunglvq". He's in Vietnam and has some blacksmiths make blades for him. Good luck.

Lot of knives and knife companies but the quality is very low even for Asia. If you get to Hanoi try Nguyen Khuyen street/avenue. One knife shop after another for several blocks.

vitnamese would not make good quality knife cause they do not have art material culture. they make knife only for war or fight

aisan knife's top grade is japanese, second grade is chinese or taiwanese, do not buy any other origins

Citadel knives are made in Cambodia. They are very good knives.

The technology for quality smithing is not there. Knives mass produced for local uses are not of high quality. I'm sure there are craftsmen who know their stuffs but they are rare. Most knives I saw for sale there were counterfeit Chinese imported. That's being said, hunting for localy made ornated display pieces can be fun.

A very friendly and helpful guy;Hung helped me to source a Hmong knife and a Rua (and made excellent khukuris too). If you can manage a trip up North you might find some Degar knives and axes.
