Hello,

I was wondering what knife the knife makers here regularly carry. I assume it would be one of your own creations (?) and if it were me, I'd make myself something special!

Photos of course would be a bonus.

Thanks

Knifemakers often have a tough time holding onto any one knife they make for themselves -- very often their personal carry knives get bought out of their pocket.

It's sad to see what happens to some of our favorite makers when they are set upon by their adoring fans at the shows.
Here's hoping that things are a little brighter for them in the days ahead. ;)

It's a little hard to see but I think he's smiling:)

I'm not really a knifemaker per se, but I can tell you that in the hobbies I've participated in, the stuff I make for myself is usually pretty lackluster and utilitarian. I put all of my heart and soul into things that I know others will be enjoying.

I carry old knifes everyday. Three most of the time. I have a big pruner i carry most of the time and then i mix in different jack knifes or stockmans everything pre-50. I keep them moving in and out so i dont oversharpen the blades. I like the old stuff as for pocketknifes. Fixed blades you cant beat customs know company makes anything that comes close to a properly ground and heat-treated custom fixed blade.

Im not a knifemaker but i have made a few users for presents. The fixedblade I keep is a special. Longer handle for winter use for ex. The folder I have kept got a little wrong, not so much it was bad for funktion but to bad in a detail to let sombody else use it. no problem with funktion, just astetics.

Don, a few years ago Ed Caffrey tried to make himself an ugly folder to carry so people wouldn't buy it out of his pocket -- don't think it worked. The alternative is to just assume you'll carry it until the next show - in the meantime you'll always have a demo knife in your pocket.

I always carry AND USE my T. ivory swayback jack and usually a couple others. Today is a small Case Autumn Bone shadow stockman in my right front pocket and a Case Chestnut Bone CV BackPocket in my back pocket.

I should make a knife for myself to carry.....yeah....RIGHT ;)

Yeah, for some reason, I don't think ugly will work :)

I carry a small swiss army knife clipped to my keys as an EDC, but when i'm away fishing for a few days i've been carrying this one lately. It's one of my own creations.

Thanks for the replies guys, it's interesting to hear what great makers like to carry day-to-day, especially when they have the option of making themselves something special!
