Thanks for opening my thread
Huge Respect to Coop for Advancing the Digital Art of Internet Compatable Custom Knife Photography.. Jim embraced the Custom Knife Internet Culture and generously shared ground breaking information and knowledge that made it possible for legions of independent knifemakers and artists to perform their own in house photography.
Thanks Jim your a Five Star Stunna for giving back to the Hood!!
What knifemakers here enjoy photography and take their own images..
Please sound off... Post pictures if you have them..
Respect.

Hey Mike!

I take my own pictures for selling here on BF and for my own records. But extra nice pieces I send to Coop. He has been very generous with his expertise.

Mike, I remember looking at your stills (post some of them, please!), and remarking: How does he do it all!??

So clear. I appreciate your mention, but I will never take credit for your work.

I applaud makers (and collectors) who learn to take reasonable photos of their work. It's part and parcel of the craft.

Your vids, on the other hand are simply stunning: Crystal clear video, and compelling editing, with state of the art software tools.

Time for YOU to share a touch of your genius.

Mike, we all have sources for our conversations. I sign off with 'much appreciation' often. Who do you think inspired that phrase? :D

Jim

I don't know that I enjoy photography. I do many of my own shots because I can't afford to send every knife to a professional. Sometimes it shows! When I have a real complex knife I send it off to the pros like Coop or Ward. I shot these myself with my Canon Rebel XTi. That large fighter with the hamon is one that needs to go out.

David

I for one have learned a lot from Photagraphers like Coop and others, it is much appreciated! It doesn't take much to take decent photographs, but it does take that extra effort on the part of the maker. I think it is the responsibility of the maker to best represent their knives, and that they are doing a dis-service to themselves and buyers with poor photagraphy. My setup is nothing more than a homemade lightbox, hardware store work lights, and a tripod. My pictures are nowhere near the quality or skill level of many of the makers and photagraphers on this site, but I learn more everyday from all of you.

i think in do ok at most shots and i try not to flatter the knife too much as the buyer might not like lipstick on a pig so i try and keep things as true to life as i cam

things like my tuna sword i just cant get good shots of so maybe i will send it to coop for proper pictures

I completely agree with everyone:). No offense, but I wonder whether Coop underestimates his contributions, especially to folks like me? He's obviosly modest! I made my own simple light box based off his posts on this forum. Throw in something for a backdrop, and I watched my knives start selling. It was seriously an amazing difference, one of the cornerstones of my game that's allowed me to continue and build up my shop. People, including me, often want the idea of a knife (or whatever), sometimes more than the real thing. It's not about hiding flaws, just taking a few simple steps to showcase your work. Thanks Coop for helping me understand the concept! One day I'll make something worthy of sending your way:)

Well Bro Snody, I can't afford to have pics taken by a pro (even though some say that you can't afford not to).

I take my own pics for my website and for posting here and other places. Nothing special, just trying to give folks a general idea of what the blade looks like. Some are fair and some not so fair.

Here is one that I did today.
