I want to let all of you know about the schedule for the knife making classes being offered this year in NC.

The North Carolina Custom Knifemakers Guild in conjunction with Montgomery
Community College sponsors the following classes:

Course: Grinding Knife Blades
Dates: June 27-29, 2003
Cost: $240
Instructor: Ed Halligan
Description: Students will learn fixed blade design and how to
hollow grind and flat grind knife blades. Ed will teach students how to
heat treat, make bolsters, guards, and handles. He will also
demonstrate handle finishing and carving.

Course: Custom Folding Knives
Dates: July 24-27, 2003
Cost: $315
Instructor: Ed Van Hoy
Description: This class will teach students how to make a custom
folding knife. You will learn how to design, grind parts and make
handles for the folding knife that you will finish in class.

Course: Metal Engraving
Dates: July 25-August 2, 2003
Cost: $60

Course: Powder Damascus Steel
Dates: August 1-3, 2003
Cost: $240
Instructor: Ron Newton
Description: Have you ever wondered how the modern mosaic
Damascus is made? Enter the exciting new field of making abstract
or intricate patterns in steel with metallic powders. You will make
powder Damascus steel with tools found in a blacksmith or
bladesmith shop. We will deal with three shades of color black,
gray and white. These techniques may be incorporated into
jewelry, knife blades and knife fittings.

Course: Basic Knife Making
Dates: September 18-21, 2003
Cost: $315
Instructor: Tommy McNabb
Description: In this course the students will learn knife making by
designing and making a knife themselves under the guidance of the
instructor. Each student will grind, heat-treat and finish a knife using
the stock removal method of knifemaking. This class is for beginners
to intermediates that want to perfect their knifemaking talents.

Course: Forged Tomahawks
Dates: October 10-12, 2003
Cost: $240
Instructor: Wayne Whitley
Description: During this course the students will learn how to forge
and finish an early American tomahawk. This class will include
forging, grinding, heat-treating, and finishing the blade and handle of
the tomahawk.
