I read a while ago about some classes being offered in Texas with some very well known makers instructing in different aspects of knifemaking; I know a lot of you probably know what I'm talking about. Can someone refresh my memory here and give me some info on these classes?

A trip to Texas wouldn't be out of the question, but if anyone also knows of any similar classes in southern California, I'd appreciate any info.

Thanks,

Ryan

It's my understanding that ABS Master Harvy Dean is having a hammer in at his digs this weekend. Ron Newton is one that will be there & I would guess several of the Arkansas and Texas Masters will be there too. Should be a good one.

Ryan,

Check Top of Texas website at www.toptexknives.com .Scroll down a bit and you'll find a link to info about Harvey Dean and Johnny Stout knifemaking school in Texas.

Harvey also teaches at the ABS school in Arkansas.

Hope this helps

The ABS school is great!
Here's another fantastic school
NRA knife coarses In conjunction with Tommy Mcnabb and the North Carolina Custom Knifemakers Guild
These are held in a state of the art facility at Montgomery C. C. in North carolina
call Wayne at (910)572-3691.
He can give you class dates and prices.
I like both of these schools.
Also look up Tommy McNabb On the internet for more info.

Texarkana! That's what I was thinking of, not Texas. Well, I got the first four letters right anyway.

Dang, Arkansas is a bit further than Texas.

Arkansas isn't much farther - Texarkana sits directly on the border of Arkansas and Texas.

I teach a basic knife forging class in Northeastern Oklahoma (Tahlequah). It is a very short course of 6 weeks. One night a week and for 4 hours a night. The cost is about $65.00 and it is all hand work (no power hammer). We do have a Wilton Square wheel 2 x 72
sander and a home made 2 x 72 sander. Right now we have two propane forges and four 130# anvils. The class was designed to be able to do a lot of the work on making the knife out of class. If any one in this part of the country would be interested, You can e-mail me for information. The next class will start on Tues., February 22, 2000.

Sounds like fun Ray. Wish I lived closer. Any makers in Pa or Ohio who want to put something on?

I forgot to mention that the knife forging class is through the Area Vo-Tech as an evening adult (16 or older) class. I teach welding at the Vo-Tech and it just seemed natural that I should try to teach forging.
