I start with some rusted motorcycle chain.

I place it inside a square section pipe.

Then I cut the ends of the pipe so I can close it.

In order to get an oxigen reduction process going, I place it on the oven at 1000C for 20 minutes.

Pipe just removed from the oven.

Said chains with a 1/4" 5160 plate.

Chains welded to the 5160 plate.

Placing it inside the pipe with added stainless 304 strips so the damascus doesn't weld to the pipe.

Putting it on the oven at 1300C for 20 minutes.

Thanks to the 304 strip this is an easy job.

Ariel, you are indeed talented in thinking of new things.
I really like the chain handle and stamping on the sheath.
I don't know a motorcycle guy who wouldn't want one.

Great to see you around again (or maybe I missed your recent postings). Very cool build and thanks for taking the time to do the pics/share it!

Very cool! I’ve seen chain Damascus made before but never like that. Very cool. I’ve also never seen the chain handle before, also very cool!

Thanks for sharing!

Very cool! It's funny, I was a bit surprised when I received your most recent news letter last Friday, as it had been quite a while since I've seen your work, but I was even more surprised to see you posting and sharing your work here on BF again. I gotta say that I've always enjoyed seeing what you come up with and your various methods of forge welding and knifemaking in general, as well as the unusual materials you implement in and on your knives. Those different variations of your little pocket-kiridashis have always been a favorite on mine.

Thanks for sharing, I hope we see continue to see new posts from you here.
