Hello All,
I am looking for any information regarding workshops that offer a course of instruction on stock removal knifemaking. Does such a thing exist? I figure that if I am going to give it a try I should at least have a clue. Thanks!

Hi,
Montgomery Community College in Troy North Carolina offers both gunsmithing AND knifemaking courses. Usually last from 3 to 5 days and cover everything from stock removal grinding, damascus making, blade forging etc. The list of instructors is pretty impresive (Darrel Ralph, Bill Moran, Ed Halligan to name a few).

IN FACT, I believe the grinding course is taking place this coming weekend and is being taught be Ed Halligan (inventor of the KISS knives from CRKT). I don't have number right off but I'm sure the link Phillip posted has the number...ask for Wayne in the "gunsmithing" department.

Hope this helps,

I attended a course taught by Steve Rollert at Trinidad State Jr. College in Trinidad, CO
last summer.. It was a great class and Steve is a super guy. Learned a lot and made a complete knife in a week. It is resonable and you may live in the dorms for practically nothing. He teaches three or so weeks. The Trinidad State College site is on the www.

recommend you look at it.
