No need for alarm. Just need some help with my knife addiction. I started off the same as everyone here. Average lower end production knives were my favorites. Then came the move above the $100 market. Then $200, $300, $400, etc... All the way into the mid-tech/custom market. Unfortunately, I'm battling with moving back to the under $300 market. I've done it twice before and always come back! But, this time is different. My marriage/family life is being affected now. There isn't a single day that I'm not on here or other forums looking at what's for sale or trade... LOOK! THERE'S A NEW LISTING AFTER I'VE HIT REFRESH FOR THE 20th TIME!!! I know... I know! I need help. So I come to you all with a simple question. Should I just stick with where I am and keep it in check? Or sell off the collection and start over with a more restricted price point and less OCD? I'm sure I'm not alone on this matter. If you've moved past the "obsession". Please share your tactics on how you did.

Respectfully,
Shane

I don't think my solution will help many here. When I thought I was getting too obsessed over the collection... I gave a bunch of knives away. Mostly here on the forum. I have way less knives now. And I'm worrying/obsessing less.

Again, not for everyone. It worked for me. I'll probably do another giveaway of several knives at once later this year.

I still love the hobby and it is a big part of my life. But I had too many knives I didn't need that others could use. I know that's weird for a knifeknut to say, but it's true.

I have bought knives that I could customize myself with different scales and hardware. If I get bored with one look I can change it to another.

Man I empathize with you. My collection started with a $35 Kershaw, then went to a $240 Brous, to a $1200 Shirogorov, to a really expensive Rj Martin, to a $8500 Frank Fischer lol. It seems
All the knives I have ordered or chasing is in the ultra high-end category. It's not so much the money but the unavailability of these knives that is stopping me. I still enjoy a good knife, it doesn't matter the price, just seems I'm more drawn towards the high ends.

I thought after my last 2 scores I would be done for
A while. But dammit if my list keeps growing.
I check BF & IG 10x a day hoping to see a custom Rexford, Carey or Southard.

In your case it's not a bad thing. Just tell whoever you could be doing drugs, addicted to hello
Kitty or murdering people. If you frame it like that, knife collecting is very reasonable. Just stay with what you are comfortable and enjoy your collection!

I have a "no knives under $300" rule but I recently broke that when I ordered this:

For the last few years, my tastes have been in the over $500 range.

34 bucks used on eBay.

A little work on filework, jimping and polish and now I don't care if I get rid of ALL my more expensive letter openers. :D

They just sit in a drawer in my Gerstner. I've sold a few, but would rather they were all gone.

Oh..... I also carry a much messed with Fallkniven U-2 for when I want a smaller blade.

Same here! I still impulsively buy the one's under $100 though. But, I will admit. My most used knife in my collection is a ZT0550

YOWZA! I would probably spontaneously combust because of the look my wife gave me after I told her how much I just spent.

:thumbup:I've thought on this long and hard. I have a really good feeling it's the answer.
