knifes in safes

Do you guys do that, for serious? I hear the term "safe queen" often enough to get me thinking: is that where people really keep things?

Do you guys have dedicated safes just for your busse wedges? To what end? What are the combinations/locations/hours when your house is empty? Do you mean to keep the littluns out, or to keep those precious blades safe from thieves and those with calamatous intent?

...or, just maybe, it's not so much about keeping others out...as it is keeping the knives IN.

Just some random questions from a bloke who'll probably end-up keeping his infi hanging in the workshed.:D

Yep, in the safe mostly to keep out of the reach of little hands as well as to protect against theft, etc. I even own one knife (not a Busse) that I keep in a fireproof lock box which is bolted to the inside of the fireproof safe!!

It makes sense to me.

You want to leave a $697 FBMLE just laying around?

Yep, all my Busse and some of my Swamp Rats live in the safe (as well as some other items of coarse).

With the money invested in them, I feel alot more comfortable with them locked up!

Same thing as cstorr2004 for me, a small fireproof safe inside a big fireproof safe for added protection for some items.

sure, no argument there. Protect your investment/valuables etc.

Out of curiousity, do you feel the casual burgular (or the general public, for that matter) would readily recognize the value of such a knife? I'm sure this mostly boils down to a "better safe than sorry" consideration.

better SAFE than sorry...!!!1111:jerkit:

Be here all night, folks. Don't forget to whip your taters.

My opinion.....get one. The bigger and heavier the better. So it can't be carried off easily and so the contents won't burn up in a fire.
I got the biggest gun safe I could afford at the time and I could use another one already. You'll be surprised how fast it will fill up. Store all your valuables when you leave the house or go on vacation.
It'll last a lifetime and pay for itself in providing you an additional sense of security.

I am getting a safe for an entirely different reason. My Busses do indeed lie around the house in various places, and we live in an area of high tornadic activity. I don't care to find myself in a blender with a lot of INFI flying around.

I do have a small lock box I put my blades in when not in use (like at work) so my kids do not get SERIOUSLY hurt.

I can hear every one of them with their high pitched squeeky little voices crying out from within their iron walls...."helllppp meeee!"

:(

The casual buglar in most cases is a juvenile male so what appeals to teenage boys? Guns, Knives, Cash, Drugs, Bling. More often then not if they turn career criminal they do not mature emotionally so at 30 you are still dealing with that teenager. A safe is cheap insurance. Even an inexpensive safe (not gun cabinet) is enough to make sure your valuables stay where they belong. It may get damaged, but as long as it can't be moved the odds are in your favor, especially if you have a monitored alarm. If you have children you absolutely need something. They may understand and respect what you have taught them, but rest assured their friends wont.

So, the concensus seems to be: melt your knives down, and make a safe out of infi.

Thanks for the responses...a safe has definitely made the "to get" list.

Heck yeah most of mine are locked away in a 900 pounder. Some are on display here or there, but they are all out of the reach of little hands, until he learns to pick locks. :D

Only my most used don't see the inside of the safe. I recently upgraded my gunsafe so my older smaller gunsafe is now a knifesafe :D and it's getting smaller inside every day.

90% of theft is just opportunity.

You lose stuff to carpenters, movers, teens, appliance repair guys, and others who just have the opportunity to snag something from your home or vehicle.

Six months later you're looking for something and realize it has walked away.

besides if some punk breaks in to your home and stabs you with your blade,
ouch, what a slap in the face.

Every knife I own now gets used. Except for the sog seal. That is going to be sold. I don't use it any more. It was replaced by a Ratweiler. My newest additions will round out my Ratweiler for EDC. ST-56 and a Mud Razor. I do own a very nice safe. My knives will never see the inside of it I imagine.
