Hi,just got a 710-1401 from knifework's,my only issue with it is how exposed the tip is when closed, exposed enough to cut you easily if you put your finger there with any pressure. is this normal? any idea's for a solution? perhap's a different spacer?

Did you buy it from Knifeworks or second hand? I know they had that issue when that model was first being produced, but I thought they got it cleared up pretty quick. Either way, I'm sure Benchmade will fix it for you, or if you bought it from KW, I'm sure they would swap it our for one that doesn't have that problem.

thank's for the reply, came direct from Knifeworks brand new, only arrived this week, not sure on the build date or anything though. contacted Knifeworks and will see what they say

That was a problem Benchmade had to fix after reports of folks getting nicked fingers. This is not common, and probably requires a trip to the Oregon City factory. Let us know what happens, the KW staff are pretty good at dealing with issues like this. I would go there first.

Yeah the first run had this issue pretty bad but they were supposed to be fixed... My first one had it so I sent it back to KW and they hooked me up with a perfect one.

Sorry to hear that. Send it in for repair unfortunately.

I had this problem with my KW's 710 exclusive. I sent it in to BM and they fixed it under warranty and I swear it opens and closes smoother now too.

I had the same problem with mine. I took the blade out and used a dremel and polishing wheel and very gently hit the part of the blade that makes contact with the stop pin. You don't have to remove much at all -just enough to allow the stop pin to sit deeper into the blade. It does not effect function of the knife at all. Or you could just send it in. lol

I asked KW to check for one that didn't have that problem......probably little more than a year ago. I got a perfect one.
If it were me, I would go the KW route......it'll be much quicker.
Good luck......a most excellent knife!
Joe
