Didn't make it to Blade this year but did win a couple of pieces at Mr. Voyles auction.
First up is a cord wrapped recurve cutter/chopper by Jason.
The steel is a mystery that maybe Mr. Knight could shed some light on. Update - he says its "saw blade" steel, which kinda makes sense as blade thickness is only about 1/8".
Speaking of light, its marked "Prototype", I'm thinking it was his attempt at a light-saber because this thing is scary sharp

Next is a nice fighter from Mr. Lamey.
Again I have no idea of the steel or wood used but it looked cool! - Blade is O1, handle is Pistachio according to Matt
Looks very Inner City - ish to me

Batting third, Mr. James Rodebaugh and this cool little Nessmuk.
Random Damascus, bronze and Amboynia - nicely put together.
I actually got this piece from another collector off that "other" custom knife forum.

And the Grand Slam, in my book anyways, what I believe to be a "Lightning Rod" by John M. Smith.

A tad bit longer than 7.5" with a swedge running about 3/4 of the length.
A single nickle silver guard that has been stippled on the front and back.
The handle was listed as wood in the catalog but I'm pretty sure its oosic.
Here's a closer look...

What do you guys think - oosic or something else all together? - It has been confirmed as "chocolate" oosic!
John has always been one of my grail makers, his designs were well thought out and lines always clean.
Its really too bad he stopped making knives when he did - he was very good!

Great snags, that Knight has really nice lines.
My first thought was Oosic when I saw that Smith, I could be wrong though

Nice scores... that Lamey looks like an older one, has a different signature on it anyway. He mainly uses 1095 and W2.

Congrats on these great pick ups, Michael !
It's not out of the realm of possibility that Jason and Matt will chime in with details. :)
Again, impressive scores.

I think it is seacow ribbone, congratulations on your scores...

Good call on the rib bone, Erik, that sounds like a real strong possibility, "thanks" for the comment.

Congrats on these great pick ups, Michael !

Thanks Doug means a lot coming from you!
As far as Jason and Matt, its hard to keep the riff-raff out, it is free access you know! :D

Here's a group shot for size perspective -

Great additions Michael. Always an extra treat to see a John M. Smith piece. Sure wish I had managed to pick up an Inner City along my travels.

Jason only does scary sharp. Matt too, for that matter.

hi Michael, that one of mine was made around 2002/03, steel is 0-1, handle is Pistachio wood (bet you never would have figure that out).

Roger that, Matt, thanks for checking in! Pistachio would have been far down on the list of guess'
The scales had a pretty sizable gap at seam when it first arrived BUT Florida's humidity made short work of the correction.
Looks like it had a sheath at one time also as guard shows marks where it probably had been stored in it.
