A few years ago I had a friend give me this sword, I believe it's either a fraternal or ceremonial sword. However i am unsure which, I did manage to read about the maker. But I'm not exactly sure what it is I should be looking for to determine. I have a feeling the head piece on the handle may be a added piece not originally with the sword. Any information or suggestions on somewhere I can go to learn about it would be greatly appreciated. It is unsharpened on edges, and the tip is rounded off as well.

I think it is definitely a fraternal sword although a fairly poor example in terms of the quality of the casting. Do you have pictures of the entire piece? Does it say foe on it anywhere?

I'll take another look, and take some better pictures. Here are the few I'd already taken.

Oops I was on the wrong track, I was thinking it was a fraternal order of eagles sword, but now that I see the pommel I think it's almost assuredly a Knights of Columbus piece. If you do a Google image search you can see other very similar pieces identified as such.

It's Knights of Columbus. My father was a member, he had two such swords. They are purely ceremonial, as in, not real weapons. Basically part of a costume and used for ceremonies.

If I recall correctly it was a catholic organization. My parents were catholic, and for awhile regular church goers. I think my godfather, who was big into KOC, convinced my father to join up, but he didn't stick with it.

I used to play with the swords when I was a kid. But only when my parents weren't home.
