Received my copy from Amazon yesterday. It seems like this has been reformatted as a large magazine rather than a book. The articles are still subpar to the old days of Ken Warner but the photo sections are far higher quality. For what ever reason, the editor went way overboard featuring Damascus everything this year. Also, the indexs of custom knifemakers and industry sources are totally gone. This was always one of the main reasons I bought the book.
I was really impressed with how the new owners restored Gun Digest back to the premier firearm annual it once was. They still have a long way to go with the knife annual.

I wrote to Joe Kertzman the editor today to inquire... (and get a copy!)

He told me that EVERY one of the makers included has complete contact info. Better than ever before.

I recall last year (which was not going to be released again, but they rallied to keep it) that there were makers who's contact info was not included. I ALWAYS submit with contact info. My images dominate the pages, and they used my infosheets.

So, if you need historical KNIFEMAKER info, get a previous copy. Ask me. I have EVERY one since 1981...

If you want CURRENT shown info, here you have it.

I don't have a copy in my hands yet. The handmade knifemaker info is the hardest to acquire. They nailed it.

Everyone else is a business (like me) and a Google click away.

So, you have to be lucky enough to have had photos of one of your knives published in that annual to have your info printed? Great, I love a crap shoot. The one time they did put me in (2018) they didn't even print any of my information.

Lucky, maybe a tiny bit. You can greatly increase your odds (to near certainty) by making an interesting knife and having it professionally photographed. It's easier to get lucky if you give them what they want.

Any one of us who wants to volunteer for maintaining a 100% current database of a few thousand knifemakers? Talk about labor intensive, and very dependent on other people. And the editing and layout... Yuck! Checking every period, email, etc against another list. At least editing text you know how the words are supposed to be spelled.

I figure there may be at least one good article in the 2023 ;)

Well, I'm having my knives professionally photographed, just not making anything interesting apparently. They notified me that they wanted to put three knives in but was lucky to get one in. I filled out and sent in the forms with all the information two or three times because they lost the information. Then found out after all that they didn't print the info anyway. Whatever. They don't owe me anything. I was lucky to get in at all. Plus it was a bad time for the publication so you have to cut them some slack. It's just fun to see your stuff published. I would love to see the annual regain its glory because I really enjoy seeing the incredible work of all those makers.

I got my copy of Knives 2022 today, some great photos of some very nice knives. Looks like they did a much better job in getting contact information listed, at least for the knives they had photos of. I do miss the old section with lots of knife makers contact information listed. I looked at the Index of Knife Makers and checked only the knives that had caught my eye. Coop, I think Joe Kertzman was not correct about EVERY knife maker whose photo was in this issue had his contact information listed. I checked for Gaetan Beauchamp on page 166, and he is not listed, and his photo is one of yours. If that is the only maker they missed they did a good job. John

i4Marc i4Marc was fortunate to get (2) knives in. His contact info is also included. 👏

J John A. Larsen you are correct. On that piece, no contact. Like you said, it appears to be an anomaly. Anything else I saw had contact. Nicely done!

I have FORTY past issues with historical knifemaker info. I refer to them if I need. 95% of the time it's for me helping others in this forum find someone.

I am VERY thankful for my clients to be seen, and VERY thankful that my images were chosen for them.

Breakdown of images credited:

SharpByCoop: 317
Blade Gallery: 178
Caleb Royer: 138
Others: 114 (Mitchell Cohen, Eric Eggly, and a number of other great photographers.)
Notably missing is a major US photographer. Color me puzzled.

The cutout knife-only image format is a handy way to get MANY more images included. For that I am thankful.
The random rotating of images, departing from the original capture perspective makes the artist in me cringe. 90% of the viewers don't care or know. I do.
