Can anyone advise if knives are allowed on cruise ships. Not looking to carry tactical knife or fixed blades just my every day SAK's, or even 58mm Sak's. What about in checked bags? Thank you.

This came up on rec.knives not too long ago and the experience of most was that if in checked baggage, no problem. If in carry on bag or on your person (they "wand" you when boarding), the knife would be taken & returned to you at the end of the voyage. At ports of call, you will be able to get the knife off the ship, but you'll lose it when you re-board. Hope this helps. :)

I had a Leatherman, SAK and Surefire in my checked luggage w/o any issues.

I manage to fly bladeless without too many concerns, but the idea of being onboard a ship for several days without any tools is unacceptable to me. It might be unrealistic, but I am far more concerned about safety and survival issues at sea than in the air.

I had a leatherman confiscated from a checked bag on the Disney cruise. A politicaly correct note and reciept showed up under my cabin door after we set sail. I picked it up upon my return.

They missed my Bitterroot and SAK in another piece of luggage. They also missed my utilikey in my carryon. Thank goodness, or I would not have been able to open my children's birthday presents (that tough sealed plastic stuff) or have a screwdriver to put in the batteries.

Read the cruise lines policy, Disney said no sharp objects including dive knives.

This was my experience with Norwegian out of Galveston. No problem at initial boarding. My SAK was under my wallet with my Endura in the "empty pockets" tray and I had a Gerber Ridge clipped in my cell phone. They (SAK & Endura) were rounded up re-boarding after a shore excursion. I was very nearly impolite at the time but settled for submitting a lengthy tirade on a comments card. I kept the Ridge with me on board the rest of the time.

Thanks for the replys. I've read the rules, and they state "No firearms or weapons of any kind" Now we here understand a knife is a tool and not a weapon, however the sheeple see it the other way. Since common sense has gone out of the window I don't know how they're defining weapons. THere is a ask us section on the cruise webpage but you must enter your personal information. Great I'll give them a heads up! NOT. Thanks

been discussed several times here including one just a few months ago. Use the search feature.

Tried that several times. Got a page cant be opened... or such... So I ask. Unless you can tell me why the page will not load. (Last night and just now).
